BORDER SECURITY – AUSTRALIA’S FRONT LINE

Episode 2

Monday July 9

7:30pm (PG)

An entire flight is suspected of drug smuggling; a sniffer dog’s reaction alerts officers to one of the world’s biggest killers; and an ex-con tries to convince Immigration he’s changed his ways as the fight to protect our border continues in tonight’s episode of BORDER SECURITY – AUSTRALIA’S FRONT LINE.

An entire flight from Vietnam is suspected of drug smuggling. Information has been received that there are drugs on their flight, and no stone will be left unturned as officers try to find the prohibited narcotics. The drugs could be either on the passengers, in their baggage or dumped on the plane. And if that’s the case, the entire plane will have to be thoroughly searched. For the officers, it takes time and a lot of diligence. After a painstaking search, a possible breakthrough emerges with an unlikely passenger…a heavily pregnant woman travelling with a young child. Could this be their drug mule?

A sniffer dog’s reaction alerts officers to one of the world’s biggest killers. The box from the UK is already bursting open but until officers examine the contents they won’t know why the dog has reacted. What is hiding inside?

An ex-con tries to convince Immigration he’s changed his ways. The 65-year-old passenger travelling from the UK has declared his criminal convictions on his incoming passenger card. However, he failed to declare it when he first got his visa to come to Australia. With an attempted murder conviction against him, Immigration has to determine if he will pose a risk to the Australian community. Will the mistake put Ken’s trip down under in jeopardy?

Narrated by GRANT BOWLER, BORDER SECURITY- AUSTRALIA’S FRONTLINE takes viewers behind the scenes of our Immigration, Customs and Quarantine departments.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW

Sunday July 8

6:30pm (PG)

Tonight on WHERE ARE THEY NOW, the cast of steamy soap opera Number 96 are reunited. Mel and Kochie chat to Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray Cyrus. They also catch up with the star of Cheers and The Brady Bunch movies Shelley Long. And they track down some of the biggest winners and losers on Deal or No Deal. Tonight’s mystery guest is an author who was once at the centre of one of Australia’s biggest literary hoax scandals.

The cast of NUMBER 96 are reunited. The steamy soap opera made headlines in the 70s thanks to its raunchy sex scenes and nudity. Over 2000 episodes were made and it was the longest running TV drama on Australian television until it was overtaken by The Young Doctors. Former cast members JEFF KEVIN (Arnold Feather), SHEILA KENNELLY (Norma Whittaker), ELAINE LEE (Vera Collins), JAMES ELLIOT (ALF SUTCLIFFE), ELISABETH KIRKBY (Lucy Sutcliffe), FRANCES HARGREAVES (Marilyn Macdonald) and CHANTAL CONTOURI (Tracey Wilson) gather together again for in-studio reunion.

BILLY RAY CYRUS is best remembered for his worldwide smash Achy Breaky Heart and his trademark mullet. What’s the country singer been up to since he climbed the charts in 1992?

SHELLEY LONG has appeared in many films and TV shows but she’s most famous for her role as barmaid Diane Chambers in the hit comedy series Cheers. She went on to appear in many hit movies including Outrageous Fortune and The Brady Bunch Movie. The American actress speaks to Mel and Kochie about her career and what lies ahead.

Screening in over 40 countries, DEAL OR NO DEAL has become an international television sensation in the 21st century. Hosted in Australia by ANDREW O’KEEFE, the show pits ordinary people against an insidious Banker intent on thwarting their chances of walking away with $200,000. Tonight Mel and Kochie catch up with three of the show’s most memorable contestants: DEAN CARTECHINI, who walked away with the top prize; and JON DELANIE, the first contestant to take home the lowest amount on the board, 50 cents!

Tonight’s MYSTERY GUEST was at the centre of one of Australia’s biggest literary hoax scandals.

Hosted by MELISSA DOYLE and DAVID KOCH, WHERE ARE THEY NOW takes viewers on an entertaining trip down memory lane.

2007 AFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON

Round 14: Sydney vs Fremantle

Sunday July 8

2:00pm

** LIVE **

This battle sees a replay of last year’s Preliminary Final when the Swans ran out victors by 35 points.

Paul Roos’ Swans have again produced mixed results in the first half of the season. But they’ve gone on to make the Grand Final in the past two years, including the 2005 premiership.

Fremantle has also performed below expectations and will need a win to stay in the finals race. But the Dockers haven’t beaten the Swans at the SCG since Round 2 1996, so the odds will be against them.

The Swans will continue to strangle the opposition in their dour style that has delivered them such success. Can Chris Connolly’s Dockers find a way to triumph in the Harbour city?

Hosted by BRUCE McAVANEY, with expert commentary from DENNIS COMETTI, DAVID SCHWARZ, TIM WATSON and RICK OLARENSHAW.

SEVEN RUGBY: TRI-NATIONS

Test 4 – Australia vs South Africa

Saturday July 7

7:30pm

**LIVE FROM SYDNEY**

Tonight sees the Qantas Wallabies take on the Springboks at Telstra Stadium in their second last Tri-Nations test for 2007.

It’s Test two in the series against South Africa, following Australia’s first match against the Boks on June 16. And after big wins over in England earlier this year, the Springboks are currently considered the best team in the world behind the Wallabies’ Trans-Tasman rivals the All Blacks.

The South African forward pack is undoubtedly their strength but Australia has made improvements in the same area. The final Test in the Tri Nations series will take place at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday July 21.

The Tri Nations Cup was first contested in 1996 when South Africa, New Zealand and Australia formed SANZAR and pitched the Wallabies, All Blacks and Springboks against each other in the world’s premier rugby competition.

The competition was established to create the equivalent of a Southern Hemisphere Five Nations (as played in the Northern Hemisphere). However, this Test series only features the three Southern Nations playing each other in an annual round-robin tournament on a home and away basis.

The 2007 Tri Nations series is a six-Test tournament (two home matches each) to allow for the Rugby World Cup which kicks off on 7 September.

Kick off for tonight’s Test is at 8pm AEST. The Tri-Nations will revert to an expanded nine-Test series from the 2008 season.

The coverage, which will begin with a pre-game show at 5:00pm, will be hosted by MATTHEW WHITE, with expert commentary from GORDON BRAY, DAN CROWLEY and TIM HORAN.

PLEASE NOTE: Screening at this time in Sydney and Brisbane only.
