Tonight on WHERE ARE THEY NOW, Mel and Kochie track down The Karate Kid himself Ralph Macchio. They also catch up with the actress who played Jennifer Keaton on the hit sitcom Family Ties and singer Davy Jones from The Monkees. The show also looks back on Australia’s worst road accident and America’s first space station SKYLAB, which plummeted back to earth in Western Australia. Tonight’s mystery guest is an Aussie glamour icon.
Former teen idol RALPH MACCHIO shot to international fame in 1984 after the release of the first Karate Kid movie. He went on to appear in the two sequels and hit films like the comedy My Cousin Vinny. Tonight discover what the baby-faced actor is up to now.
TINA YOTHERS found fame as an eight-year-old, when she joined the cast of the hit TV series Family Ties as Michael J Fox’s kid sister Jennifer Keaton. The show ran for seven seasons from 1982-89. Find out what the actress has been up to since the sitcom came to an end.
Singer DAVY JONES hit the big-time in the made-for-TV band THE MONKEES. The group scored worldwide hits with I’m a Believer, Last Train to Clarksville and Daydream Believer. What has Davy been up to since the group disbanded?
The rescuers and survivors of AUSTRALIA’S WORST ROAD ACCIDENT gather for an emotional reunion nearly two decades after the tragedy. On December 22, 1989, just north of Kempsey on the NSW north coast, two buses collided head-on. One was traveling from Sydney-Brisbane and the other from Brisbane-Sydney. Most of the passengers were people visiting friends and relatives for Christmas or holiday makers. Thirty-five people died and over 40 were injured in the horrific crash.
America’s first space station SKYLAB was launched in May 1973. But much to NASA’s embarrassment, it plummeted back to earth in Western Australia in July 1979. Coming to rest in and around Esperance, the San Francisco Examiner offered a $10,000 prize for the first piece of Skylab to be delivered to their offices. STAN THORNTON, who was 17 at the time, booked a flight to the US after finding some debris and won himself the cash. He joins Mel and Kochie in the studio about his special find, along with then Esperance Shire president MERV ANDRE, journalist TERRY WILLESEE, who followed the story, and ITA BUTTROSE, a judge of that year’s Miss Universe pageant held in Perth.
Tonight’s MYSTERY GUEST is a well-known Australian with famous family ties. Her husband was a high-profile politician and her son is a well-known actor who’s hit the big time in the US.
Hosted by MELISSA DOYLE and DAVID KOCH, WHERE ARE THEY NOW takes viewers on an entertaining trip down memory lane.
