Hank returns to LA from New York with an engagement ring for Karen – he is just waiting for the right moment to present it to her. Meanwhile, Karen and Bill continue with their wedding preparations with Bill none-the-wiser about Karen having had sex with Hank. To make matters even tenser for Karen, Bill reveals he doesn’t want Becca to play with her band at the wedding,

Hank attempts to pick up where he left off with Karen – the sex must have meant something, right? Wrong. Karen tells him the sex was a mistake, leaving Hank fearing just when he thought he was a step closer to gaining Karen back, he is actually a step further away.

Charlie presents Hank with a bonus cheque for ‘A Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ and Hank presents Charlie with some equally thrilling news – he has a new manuscript. Hank also gives a copy for Karen to read, hoping to woo her with his writing.

Bonus cheque in hand, Hank goes to a car dealership to buy a new ride and manages to cosy up with a sexy saleswoman (Bridgitte Bako) whilst he’s there – who says money can’t buy happiness?

Charlie tries to normalise his relations with Marcy (Pamela Adlon) after their attempted threesome with Dani (Rachel Miner), but Marcy drops a bombshell when she reveals she feels sexually awakened by the experience. Are the tables about to turn on Charlie?

Mia finds out about Hank’s manuscript, surreptitiously making a copy for herself. Meanwhile, Hank takes the manuscript back from Karen after she refuses to read it. To cap it all off, Hank is carjacked, losing his manuscript along with his new car. Arriving back home, feeling desolate and despondent, Hank gives the ring intended for Karen, to a homeless woman.

What more can Hank do to prove his love to Karen? The clock is ticking before she gets hitched to Bill and he’s got to do something radical to convince her to leave the comfort of Bill’s life for the unpredictability of his.

Detective Charlie Crews and Dani Reese investigate what they believe is a standard carjacking homicide involving a husband and wife.

The case seems like an open and shut case until they ask the husband to ID the suspected killer.

The husband refuses to ID the suspect allowing him to walk free. Confused by this, Crews and Reese work together to figure out what the husband is hiding.

Despite counsel from his lawyer Constance Griffiths (Brooke Langton), Crews pays a visit to the detective who oversaw his murder investigation.

As the lead character Crews, Lewis portrays a former LAPD officer who

was wrongly incarcerated for 12 years for a crime he did not commit. After he is exonerated and subsequently freed from jail, Crews returns to the force and to the daily grind of life with his own brand of child-like, bright-eyed optimism, wit, humor and wisdom.

“The central thing to hang on to is that because of his experience, he’s undergone an experience no one else has,” Lewis remarked. “So when he comes out of jail and is given his life back, he isn’t bound by the minutiae and banalities of everyday life. He rises above that. He sets his own behavior codes. He’s been changed by the physical and psychological abuse that he suffered in jail.”

“He is almost a naïf,” Lewis added, while speaking fondly of his onscreen alter ego. “He’s an optimist; he has childlike qualities. He’s fun, light, all the things he hasn’t had. He chooses to live his life to the full. He’s not always successful. He chooses to see the good in every situation.”

LIFE WAS HIS SENTENCE. LIFE WAS WHAT HE GOT BACK.
