Now stuck in Rainbow's End, Louisa (Kerry Armstrong) is deeply depressed and humiliated as she's forced to sell her clothes at a garage sale and search for unskilled work.
She hides her pain behind jokes for Holly's (Hanna Mangan-Lawrence) benefit. But in reality, Holly is falling apart. After inadvertently incurring the wrath of her new school mates, she slips the urn containing her dad's ashes into her backpack for comfort.
The next day the ashes fall out at school, and she's derided and ostracised. Vulnerable and fragile, she finds herself fighting off the amorous advances of local footy star Rooster McIver (Richard Davies), until she's rescued by Sean (Tim Phillipps), the sweet undertaker.
Meanwhile Louisa is forced to clean the house of an old school nemesis, local identity Gavin Braithwaite (Andrew S. Gilbert). Her first day ends in her being fired, but new friends Marg (Caroline Gillmer) and Deb (Kaarin Fairfax) point her towards the Rainbow Echo, where she's employed as a part-time photographer. Louisa is thrilled - at last things are going her way - until Sean tells her about Rooster McIver and confides he saw Holly at the Melbourne bus stop.
The local cop brings Holly back to a hurt and horrified Louisa. How could Holly do this to her? Holly says she didn't think Louisa would even notice she was gone - after all, she's obsessed with herself. Louisa is guilt-stricken. She makes a heartfelt apology, and she and Holly communicate honestly for the first time.
The next day demolition work finally starts on the shack - at least it's about to, until Minna (Julia Blake) turns up and announces that the Council has listed the shack as a Building of Significance, meaning that it can't be knocked down. Louisa is foiled and furious.
