Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O, hosts of Australia's highest-rating FM radio show, will host Big Brother 2008, replacing Gretel Killeen who has decided to move on to other projects.
Network Ten (TEN) and Endemol Southern Star (ESS) made the announcement today and confirmed Big Brother's return to TEN in a tighter, re-energised format that will be more interactive than ever before.
Gretel Killeen said: “Working on Big Brother has been an extraordinary, challenging and rewarding experience. I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved but I now have the ‘seven year itch’ and am busting to get on with a million new things, including my first feature film which we’re shooting in the new year."
David Mott, TEN’s chief programming officer, thanked Gretel for seven exceptional years as Big Brother host, saying: "We thought long and hard about whether there could even be a Big Brother without Gretel, so synonymous has she become with the franchise in Australia. Gretel's wish to concentrate on new projects gave us the opportunity to start at the top in making BB08 a completely different show."
Southern Star Group chief executive officer, Hugh Marks, said: "Gretel has played a pivotal role in bringing Big Brother to Australian audiences, and we can’t thank her enough for seven wonderful years as host.
"Next year with new hosts, a re-energised format and greater levels of interactivity than ever before, I’m confident we will attract a larger share of the target audience for many years to come.”
Mr. Mott added: "Although we'll retain the elements fans know and love best, we're making a number of changes towards what we hope will be one of the strongest series yet.
"For example, for the first time the Australian public will have a real chance to influence who goes in to the Big Brother house."
Kyle Sandilands said: "I'm excited to become a part of the Big Brother phenomenon at a time of some exciting changes in the format. Over the years, The Kyle and Jackie O Show has been one of the most vocal commentators on Big Brother, so coming on-board to
host only seemed natural."
Jackie O said: "I absolutely love Big Brother. I'm used to having to keep Kyle in check every weekday morning but this is another challenge altogether!"
"Over seven years, Big Brother has been a consistent winner in the target 18-49 audience and delivered more than 100 hours of compelling content annually," said TEN's chief executive officer, Grant Blackley.
"We're delighted to announce these exciting changes to Big Brother and return one of Australia's most keenly-followed programs to our line-up."
In another big change this year, anyone can submit a video audition via the Big Brother website.
Hopeful housemates need simply record a one-to-two minute video about themselves to provide insight into who they are and why they deserve one of the coveted places.
From Tuesday, October 30 2007, housemate wannabes can upload their video to www.bigbrother.com.au.
Then, in December, the Australian public gets to choose! Fans can view eligible videos at www.bigbrother.com.au, rate them and vote for their favourite online.
The candidates behind the three most-voted eligible videos will win a place in the 2008 Big Brother house.
Producers will also be guided by how the Australian public voted in selecting the rest of the housemates. Watch closely Australia – this season it's your choice!
Big Brother is one of the most enduring and successful Australian television shows ever. Even in its seventh season this year, every regular Big Brother program won its timeslot in 18-49, often with commercial shares in excess of 40% in the target audience.
The 2007 Big Brother Winner Announced program peaked at 2.3m viewers and remains number two in the year's top shows in 18-49, with The Biggest Loser finale at number one.
Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O are Sydney's top-rating breakfast radio team.
Kyle has also risen to national prominence as a judge on Australian Idol since 2005.
In addition to her radio commitments, Jackie is well known to television viewers across the country. Her most recent project with TEN was as host of Australian Princess.
Friday Night Live hosts, Mike Goldman, Ryan Fitzgerald and Bree Amer return to Big Brother for another year of madcap antics in Friday night games.

while i was watching Shrek 3 the other day i noticed that the voice of pinochico sounded much like the voice of Travis on Big Brother 2008. Now that is the most sadest thing I have ever heard and that the guy needs to be a bigger man and have a bigger voice and may need to see a doctor as it is quite sad.......

Im am most disgusted in Big Brother for allowing such bullying to go on in the house against Bridget. I think Royi and Bianca should be made to suffer the consequences of their actions. I am most upset that Big Brother would allow such behaviour to be allowed on national tv. you are only breading bullying which is such a problem in real life and feel most upset to watch Bridget crying on tv all the time, as parent watching this it is most disturbing. If that was my daughter i was watching, i would be very upset and hurt for her. you need to be very unkind to the two which are doing the most bullying and take away their cloths. Bianca is the biggest bitch on the show and is the one who caused the most fights. Royi should not be allowed to follow Bridget around and constantly bully her, maybe you should isolate him from the others to teach him a lesson. i know bridget maybe spoilt but there is no need for her to be treated in such manner, and i will say it did bring tears to my eyes watching her. I think she should be given credit for not walking off the show. i think she is a very strong girl and should be given a break. I think Bianca should have her cloths taken from her and see how it feels. All the show is showing its ok to have a pack mentality.

i was so dam excited for bb this year.. i used to live in pt lincoln n watched it, worshiped it, missed it wen it wasnt on, tapped it:)
evry single night..
un tile the day i left my old town of lincoln n i moved up to PORT HEDLAND-becoz of my dad...
everyone told me hedland was crap.. n i was just living it up(i got oveit)-it aint tht bad..
until the da i was told big brother isnt broadcasted over here in fukin helland...
now i seriously want to move bak to lincoln

Didn't think much of Gretel but watched the show definitely wont watch Kyle and Jackie O. Hes a dick and she is so boring.

If the news is correct and you are putting Corey in the Big Brother House - your ratings will decline significantly!! I will definitely be switching off at that stage!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait for BB08!!!!!!!!!!! it better be starting soon and as for the hosts they could have done a little better than kyle and jackie o and as much as i love Gretel, her sense of fashion or her stlylists sense of fashion gets rather irritating!!!! Sad to see her go though! its going to be a great year for BB as long as the new guys hold up strong their end of the bargain!!!

omfg i cant belive gretle has left big brother... it was awsome that she was on the show......its gonna be totally different with jackie an kyle even though kyle is a jackass sometimes he is fantastic an honest to watch..... congrat on them for hosting a big tv show

The show needs a brand new start. It was going in all the wrong places. Kyle and Jackie o will be great hosts. You just know with Kyle hosting there is going to twists, turns and unexpected excitement. He will make it worth watching. I'm glad Mike, Fitzy and Bree are still around aswell. This year should be great.

hey what a shame to see gretel go
i don't think the show will ever be the same...........luckily it's not going to be..... i am so excited about this years BB i hope that it lives up to all expectations.... a bit annoyed 
at having kyle as host i don't think he will do the show much justice i like he speaks his mind but sometimes he just say's things that make him look stupid and people at home cringe anyway how exciting it's nearly here can't wait till april 28 will be on the edge of the seat hopeing for the best year yet!!!!

anyone can be a carer, it takes alot more to be called a parent, and who cares who they are as long as they put their kids first.
Who are you to judge people, everyone should be equal, who cares about their sexual prefrences And as for 70% of gays being on drugs..wake up to yourself.. look around, all this generation are on or have been on drugs, not just the gays!
you say god created adam & eve not adam and elton, what about god saying that that everyone should be equal.. were all ppl it does not matter what our colour is or who we prefer to sleep with as long as we provide a healthy stable enviroment for our children none of it matters.
and if you a mother like a am than im ashamed because its ppl liie you that are confusing kids. its the 21st century there is no way around it, there are gays everywhere so our kids will grow up knowing no different.

awww... the main reason i watch big brother is for gretell killeen, she's so funny and i don't think it would work with out her. she IS big brother... i like kyle sandilands, he would be funny, but i dont know about jackie O, shes all polite and nice, she wouldnt work...in my opinion. but ill just have to wait and see wont i.. and good luck to gretel!!!

Hi there,
I like your program overall, except the gay subject you keep bringing up every week. In relation to today's discussion right or wrong for gay people to have kids, here is what I think.
I think only people that can naturally have kids should be called parents. The rest are carers, and it should be left upto the kids to decide what to call them.Jackie-o why don't you have some kids first and then tell us how exceptable it would be for a kid to be brought up by two men, and which one would he call "mother".Why are we confusing kids so much with adults sexual preferences when they should be playing and not thinking of these things. Why don't we instead help kids to have a happy life by helping their parents to stay together and enjoy life. Have you realised the rate of divorce in Australia and what % is actually australian couples (not foreigners). You know why, because australian people want to do only what they like and when they are ready. They forget no-one is perfect including you Jackie-o and it is all about give and take. You can't have a happy family is the mother doesn't want to cook, clean and so on, and the father doesn't want to have his share.
On the issue that gays are born gays, please remember that you have had so many callers telling you that 70% of gay people are on drugs, and that they have to get the shit out of their back side before the d... goes in. Is this what you want the gay people kids to see And understand???? Also, let me remind you that God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Elton.
