On the season final of BOSTON LEGAL, Denny and Alan are finally accepted into the Coast Guard but their friendship is tested when Alan represents a town that wants to secede from the United States, and Denny represents the opposing side.
Although he dislikes Alan immensely, Judge Harvey Cooper respects him as an attorney, so he asks him to represent his town of Concord, Massachusetts. They have decided to secede from the United States because they believe the country no longer stands for the things it used to.
When Denny finds out, he begs Alan not to take the case. Alan refuses, and Denny throws him out of his office. Sack is also against Alan taking the case, and Denny pitches him an idea – representing the United States.

This week on BOSTON LEGAL, Alan Shore gets the chance of a lifetime when he’s asked to appeal the death sentence of a mentally challenged man to the Supreme Court; and Katie learns that Jerry’s new girlfriend has a dark secret.
Jerry struts into the office, and stuns Katie and Alan with the news that he lost his virginity the night before to his new girlfriend Dana.
Sack tells Alan he’s been requested to handle the appeal of a man, Lenny Serra, sentenced to death for raping an eight-year-old girl. Alan passes until Sack informs him the appeal is before the United States Supreme Court.

Shirley asks Alan to argue a case that would allow her to end her father’s fight with Alzheimer’s; Jerry is sued for sexual assault; and Sack represents Nantucket Island in their quest to build an atomic bomb.
Jerry reluctantly tells Katie that his new girlfriend, Dana Strickland, is suing him for sexual assault. She found out that he sprayed himself with a hormone that causes people to trust you. He used it to help build his self-confidence, but she feels he drugged her with it.
Shirley rushes to the hospital to check on her father, Walter. He is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s, and jumped out of the second-floor window of his nursing home. Shirley is shocked and anguished to see his worsened condition. He doesn’t recognize her, and seems terrified of everyone. She tells Denny, and he wants to visit him. She resists until Denny reminds her how close they were.
