A group that fundraises to buy medicines for treatment of third-world countries has lost a $1 million shipment to thieves.

When Sam enlists Michael's help to recover the drugs, Mike learns to his dismay that the gobetween is Virgil Watkins, a previous client in last season's episode "Unpaid Debts." Mike is all for helping the charity, but warns Virgil not to hook up with Mike's mother Madeline as it nearly got her killed last time they were together.

Sam, Virgil and Michael cook up a plot to force the drug thief, a man named Gerard, to reveal where he's hidden the stolen cache. With the plan, Sam sets himself up as the buyer and arranges to get Michael on the inside (his cover - a timid chemist protecting his "own" stash of illegal medication.

The plan falls together easily and professionally, the money is finally returned to the charity and all is restored to save the world's children.

Michael finally gets to meet his new handler Carla face-to-face, and she gives him what seems like a simple assignment: have a counterfeiter make a copy of a topof- the-line security badge in two days.

Meanwhile, Sam persuades Michael to take on another seemingly straight-forward case for Sofia, a pretty lady who is being stalked. However, with the stalker a drug smuggler and the stalkee an undercover DEA agent, things become a little more complicated…

This episode picks up where we left Michael last week – in Sam's car in the back of a trailer. The mysterious woman who has been calling him is Carla and she can help him find out why he is such an important asset, and why his burn notice was issued.

But first he must do something for her... Carla wants Michael to help Jimmy (an IT guy whose family has been kidnapped) get data from a company called Security Associates.

If he succeeds, Jimmy's family will be returned and Michael will get to meet Carla and get some questions answered. With the assistance of Fi and Sam, Michael sets up a plan to infiltrate Security Associates, get the data and save Jimmy's family – but not without setting off a few alarms and blowing up a boat!

In the midst of all this he has to deal with his neurotic mother, Fi's anger at him leaving and generally just trying to stay alive.

Michael is about to come face-to-face with Phillip Cowan, the man who issued his burn notice. He, understandably, has many questions for him, but when their first rendezvous doesn't go to plan, Michael and Cowan are forced play a delicate game of cloak and dagger, trading coded messages to set up a secure meeting where all will be revealed.

With Michael preoccupied with his burn notice, Sam takes the case of Gillian Walsh, a supervisor at a defense contractor who is being blackmailed and forced to use her security clearance to help smuggle Turkish heroin into the U.S. Gillian's friend and fellow blackmail victim, Melissa, is oddly reluctant to help and Sam and Fiona soon discover why. In order to free Gillian from the blackmail, Sam is forced to set her up but his plan has dire consequences, not only for Gillian, but also for himself and Fiona.

Fiona’s new job as a bounty hunter places her in contact with a fugitive who insists he did not steal a $2 million broach; and Michael gains access to the man behind his burn notice.

When Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) meets up with Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) for lunch, he is still engrossed in his burn-notice file, which he received from CSS Agent Jason Bly. He complains that the file is a complete work of fiction; stating that he sold government secrets to Lebanon, and code breaking technology to Jordan, among other lies. Fiona is more interested in talking about the fact that they slept together days before but Michael reminds her that there was a reason they didn’t work out the first time around.

In order to set up an elaborate scheme to ensnare the government agent sent to handle his case, Michael accepts a job protecting a convenience-store owner from the extortion of a local crime boss.

When Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) alerts agent, Jason Bly (Alex Carter), that he has stolen his wallet and knows exactly who he is and who he works for, Jason coolly responds that he not only knows all about Michael but is aware of his friend Fiona's activities as well. Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) has been dabbling in arms dealing and Jason knows that she is meeting Michael any minute and will be driving a stolen car with semi-automatic weapons in the boot. Michael takes off, jumping in the car seconds before the police arrive enabling them to dump the car and escape just in time. He realises the set up is meant as a warning to him to back-off and accept his burn notice, or his friends and family will suffer the consequences.

Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) returns home to find that someone has been gone through his apartment. Suddenly a frantic call from his mother (Sharon Gless) sends him running to her house. Apparently Michael getting his hands on the name of the Homeland Security Director who ordered his burn notice ruffled some feathers high up the food chain.He now has a new surveillance team, and they are the hands-on type.

When Michael's (Jeffrey Donovan) brother Nate (Seth Peterson) discovers he is a covert operative he asks Michael for help. He sets up a meeting at an airport hangar but when Michael arrives he finds Nate beaten to a pulp. Nate explains that he was helping a friend, and got in over his head. Worried that Nate will get himself killed, Michael agrees to help him.

Later, while working on the car his late father left him, Michael and Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) find a bug hidden under the steering column. Fiona points the finger at Sam (Bruce Campbell). Michael knows that Sam works with the Feds, reporting what Michael is up to, but they have a deal: Sam only tells them what Michael wants them to know. He isn’t sure who planted the bug, but he leaves it in place so as not to arouse suspicion.

Oleg’s best waitress, Cara (Dedee Pfeiffer), hasn’t shown up for work in a week. Someone threatened her, and she is afraid to leave the house. Michael agrees to take the job for four-months’ free rent.

He goes to see Cara, who explains that she witnessed a crime. A pizza delivery-guy rear-ended a Lexus. The driver of the Lexus proceeded to drag the guy from the car, and severely beat him. Cara reported the attack to the police, and provided the license-plate number of the Lexus. The delivery guy ends up on life support, and she is the only witness.

In the second of a two-part episode, Michael Westen continues on his quest to find who ordered his Burn Notice while still working on the multi-million dollar art theft case of which he is the private detective.

Michael meets with an art dealer who mentions that the stolen prints were on the market 6 months before the theft but the owner, Mr Pyne, was not successful in selling them. Michael soon discovers that Pyne faked the robbery and set up Javier, the mansions caretaker, to take the fall. Michael could just deliver the news and leave but he has grown found of Javier and wants to do more.

He enlists the help of his friend Sam and girlfriend Fiona, who plant a bug on Pyne and discover that Pyne has plans to kidnap Javier's son. Will Michael foil the kidnapping and save Javier from a crime he
did not commit?

However, MICHAEL WESTEN (Jeffrey Donovan) is not “most people.” He's got a pesky FBI tail, a violence-prone ex-girlfriend looking for closure, and a hypochondriac mother calling him 30 times a day. Yet these are the least of his problems.
