Series 2, Episode 1: October 5 2008, 10:10pm

What is it about racy behaviour that has everyone running home to tune into their TV’s?

And with TEN's hit series Californication returning for a highly anticipated second season, you're only going to be running faster…

Californication centres around the life of Hank Moody (Golden Globe winner David Duchovny) who is struggling through his career as a writer while trying to win a family he’s already lost. But don't pity the guy for his situation; the feeling fades once he begins to bed women three times a day!

Season one ended with Hank coming to terms with having lost his long time love, only to have her bail on her own wedding and hop into his convertible, driving off into the sunset. Does this mean that a new Hank has emerged, now that he has his perfect family? Hardly. As part of the reconciliation, Hank undergoes a grueling vasectomy at Karen’s request.

Monday October 15 at 9:30pm on TEN

Hank falls into a spiral of despair when his father Al (Mark Margolis), dies. In a flashback sequence, Hank remembers a series of events where Al points out Hank's shortcomings, both professionally and personally, which Hank takes great offence too.

However, at the time, Karen agreed with Al and informed Hank he did indeed fall short on his family obligations. It was these events and accusations that lead to Karen revealing to Hank she slept with Bill (Damian Young), thus resulting in them splitting for good.

Meanwhile, back in the present day, Karen tries to get Hank on a plane to go to his father's funeral. Instead, he holes up with Trixie (Judy Greer), a hooker he meets at a bar. Completely broke, Hank has Charlie come to the hotel room to pay off the hooker's bodyguard.

Hank returns home and finally reads an old unopened letter his father wrote him years ago in which Al apologises for all of his own shortcomings and tells Hank how much he loves him and his writing. Hank breaks down just as Karen arrives at his house to console him, leaving them both in a very emotional and tender state. Has heartbreak ultimately brought the one person Hank has been pining for, back in to his life?
