News

The first game of the AFL premiership season is on Thursday March 24 between Richmond and Carlton.

This year, the Thursday season opener is on Ten which will mean very different programming in each market on that night, with AFL states either falling behind or missing out on an episode of The Good Wife and Law & Order: SVU.

In Melbourne, the AFL on Thursday March 24 will be live from 7.30pm on Ten and ONE. As a result, The Biggest Loser will not be seen in Melbourne that night, instead there will be a double on Friday night – which in turn, pushes out Undercover Boss as well.

In Adelaide and Perth, the AFL airs from 8.30 on Ten and ONE, leaving the Biggest Loser in place as usual at 7.30.

In Sydney and Brisbane, the AFL does not air until 11pm on Ten, so Thursday night programming remains as normal until then. AFL fans in Sydney and Brisbane will be able to see the game on ONE from 7.30pm.

Ten also airs the Adelaide vs. Hawthorn game that plays on Saturday March 26 – this will be live on Ten and ONE in all markets except Sydney, where it is delayed on both Ten and ONE.

Neighbours actor Scott Major is planning on getting more involved in the soap by penning some future episodes.

Major, who plays Lucas Fitzgerald, has already branched out to directing several episodes and hopes to extend his skills to writing.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “I have actually put in a submission to the writing department to write an episode and I’ve also written a six-part TV series set in Camden, London which some producers over in the UK are looking at, so I definitely would like to pursue TV writing.”

Of his directing work on Neighbours, Major said: “It’s going very well – I have another episode which I directed coming up soon and I’m about to start work on a few more.”

A few weeks ago, it was reported to be considering a current affairs based program to air at 6.30pm Sundays, to go up against Seven’s Sunday Night – a regular winner of that timeslot. This is in addition to 60 Minutes, that remains at 7.30.

Last night, the network unexpectedly aired a program called ACA Sunday – which appeared to serve a number of purposes.

Firstly, ACA Sunday featured a “Hey Dad” exclusive where another person has just come out speaking up about the wrong doings of the “father” from the show – the very same exclusive that Seven had been promoting all weekend as being first on Today Tonight on Monday night. Having this story airing on ACA Sunday means Nine got in first.

Secondly, ACA Sunday allowed extra coverage of Japan – which many viewers may have expected. With Seven having Sunday Night already airing at that time, it was a given that there would be updates on Japan during the program. 60 Minutes as well presented a story on the unfolding disaster.

Thirdly, ACA Sunday allowed Nine to test the waters of having such a show against Sunday Night. As it was clearly a decision made over the weekend, there was no time for promotion other than on Nine itself.

As a result, Customs moved back to 7pm, while Send In The Dogs Australia was not seen at all.

ACA Sunday was hosted by Tracy Grimshaw.

At this stage, there is no indication whether ACA Sunday will become a regular fixture for Nine on Sunday night.

Australia’s Got Talent judge Kyle Sandilands was taken to hospital during filming for the new season of the show on Saturday night in Sydney.

Sandilands, who has issues with high blood pressure, was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital after suffering from a migraine half-way through Saturday night’s filming.

“Kyle got through most of the day’s taping but was feeling unwell and couldn’t finish the day,” a Seven spokesman confirmed yesterday.

“He’s home and resting up.”

Sandilands was advised several years ago by doctors to cut down the amount of cigarettes he smokes as well as the excessive quantity of  caffeine he consumes daily.

Fellow judges Dannii Minogue and Brian McFadden continued filming yesterday without Sandilands.

Shane Bourne is best known for his presenting role in “Thank God You’re Here”, last seen on Seven a few years ago. Bourne is currently not signed to any network in particular.

We are another weight loss warrior down as Emma Duncan left Camp Biggest Loser last night.

As the 3rdmember of the white team to be eliminated, she leaves behind her twin sister Meg who remains in the competition alone.

Trainer Tiffiny Hall will be mourning the loss of another one of her ninjas but with some one on one training, Meg may just keep that white flag flying for a while yet.

In last night’s elimination it was black vs white, The Moons against The Duncans, Jodie and Emma…At this stage in the game, strategies are in place and alliances have formed but with 3 votes each, it came down to who had lost the highest percentage of bodymass, and that was Jodie.

Emma can leave with her head held high having lost a whopping 34.9kg during her time in the show and finally getting her weight into double digits. She’ll rejoin her already eliminated siblings Sarah Jayne and Jarrod and continue on her weight loss journey back at home.
