800 wordsI have good news, the not so good news and annoying news about the new Erik Thomson’s new Australian drama 800 Words.

The not so good news is that the first episode starts ‘out of character’ for the show, primarily because it needs to set up the premise of the series. The show is ultimately about the adventures and misadventures of a family now living in New Zealand – the show obviously deals with the actual move from Australia to New Zealand to begin with.

“I’m about to throw the cat amongst the pigeons. I’ve been rounding up my own group of home cooks. A group that is dedicated, passionate and motivated to win,” he told the bewildered home cooks who’d just farewelled the second team from the competition.

In an Australian first, viewers were given the power to swap the stars and their professional dance partners in The Switch Up.

It was sink or swim for the stars with tonight’s Switch Up twist but DAVID RODAN triumphed during a highly competitive night of dancing.

Top scoring for the second week running with 38 points, David showed off a different side with a smooth and sensual Rumba. Dancing alongside Tai Hara’s partner Jorja Freeman, the AFL legend won warm praise from the judges with Todd McKenney and Adam Garcia awarding him a perfect score. “For a beginner, you understand dance,” Todd said. It was party night on Dancing With The Stars and the eight remaining couples raised the roof with David Rodan top scoring.

The stars danced to their favourite party tracks and the AFL footy star led the charge with his energetic Cha Cha earning him 36 points.

Fighting back tears Kyly announced she was retiring due to a serious hamstring injury. Host Daniel MacPherson told contestants tonight’s elimination would still go ahead as planned despite her shock exit.

Reigan Derry from The X Factor

Reigan Derry has been knocked out of The X Factor in the final round of eliminations before the Grand Final.

Pitted against teenage sensation Marlisa Punzalan, Redfoo’s last hope couldn’t secure the votes needed to remain in the competition.

It was a night full of passion and sentiment as the stars shared their most memorable moments through dance.

Olympic gold medalist Torah Bright bounced back from the bottom of the leaderboard with her contemporary routine to Katy Perry’s Roar. She soared to new heights, top scoring with 35 points. She spoke about overcoming adversity and tonight she and partner Robbie Kmetoni did just that with a performance the judges called “powerful” and “riveting”. DANCING WITH THE STARS made a spectacular return with 11 celebrities braving the dance floor in an explosive night of dancing.

Presenter/model Kyly Clarke top-scored with 35 points with an emotive contemporary dance the judges called “breathtaking” and “absolutely beautiful”. Todd McKenney said: “You have set the bar incredibly high.”

In the battle of the codes, AFL star David Rodan scored 34 points edging out NRL legend Matt Cooper on 28. David’s energetic Cha Cha had the judges applauding his “amazing rhythm”. “You have definitely thrown down the gauntlet,” Adam Garcia said. Continue reading »
