On this week’s LOUIS THEROUX special, Louis gets naked and takes up the challenge of “keeping wood” during an explicit exploration of the American porn industry.

Louis meets veteran actress Sharon Mitchell on location with her latest movie, Debbie Does Dallas. The former heroin addict tells him that “guys start sweet, sensitive and tender but after a few films, their eyes glaze over”.

Also on set is a girl from Northampton, who is far more enthusiastic about her role. She says: “I’m a nymphomaniac. I can’t help it.”

Talent agent Jim South, of World Modelling, arranges for Louis to do a nude Polaroid for his portfolio. After which he is bombarded with advice: “If you’re hard, you’re wonderful,” and with warnings: “Girls can fake it. Guys can’t. You don’t come, you don’t get paid.”

Louis finally lands himself a bit part in the gay film, Snowbound, with actor Troy Halston, who says he is straight. He is one of a number of actors who are “gay for pay”. For him: “It took a while to get used to the idea of being with a man.” And it’s a bit of a nightmare for the director, too: “Three guys in a gay scene, you have a lot of wood to be concerned with.”

8.30pm thursday / NOVEMBER 6

In this episode, Detectives Goren and Eames investigate the case of Paul Phillips, a young student found dead, hanging from overhead pipes in the boiler room of an elite private school.

Arriving at the crime scene, the detectives are met with the woman who found the body. Mrs. Anna Nobile, an art teacher at the school, who also has a daughter attending the school.

Without any evidence, the detectives assume that Paul’s death was suicide. That is, until Goren looks below the surface and discovers fresh mud on Paul’s sneakers, while Eames adds that the knot was a sailing knot and his mobile phone and backpack are missing.

Searching for answers, the detectives meet with the victim’s parents. The mother says he was looking forward to his promotion, but she doesn’t know how it went because they went out of town to a regatta. The father, a corporate raider – known for his toughness – does not respond well, insulting them. Goren theorises that he was embarrassed by his underqualified son.

Later, Goren and Eames meet with Jack Walker, a boy the school counsellor said Paul might be friends with. Jack shows the detectives a make-out, grotesque cartoon the victim made. What could this have to do with the case? What story was Paul trying to tell in his cartoon?

The case takes a turn at the morgue when Dr. Rodgers informs detectives that the cause of Paul’s death was actually asphyxiation by hanging, and that his skull was bashed in. Rodgers shows them the two to three day old bruises all over his body, concluding the victim was brutally beaten before his death.

A break in the case finally arrives when a police computer technician shows them the video of a girls group, wearing sports goggles and masks, attacking Paul, knocking him down, kicking and punching him furiously. This leaves Eames and Goren sifting through teenage politics, an online community that is hiding a secret, and a murderer whose motive is almost as complex as the murder plot.
