Seven Network Finally Offers EPG Accurate to the Minute as well as Series Linking.

Finally the Seven network has moved in to the 21st Century. First noticed over the Christmas weekend, Seven and 7TWO are offering an EPG that is accurate to the minute. This means that shows like Deal or No Deal that used to say it started at 5.30 now say it starts at 5.27. Without an EPG accurate to the minute, viewers would miss out on the beginnings of shows that started early unless they set their recorder to start early.

The new up to the minute EPG also reflects lateness typically resulting from Today Tonight finishing 4 minutes late. The 7.30 shows reveal 7.34 start times, 8.30 can now be 8.33, and so on. Late night shows that used to start as much as 15 minutes early (believe it or not) now show their correct start times. Similarly, day time shows on 7TWO also show correct start times accurate to the minute.

But that is not all. Finally, you can series link Seven’s shows If you have a PVR such as Foxtel’s IQ2 that supports series linking. You can set the news to record each day at 6pm by series link as well as other weekly shows like Border Patrol, The Force and City Homicide (although most of these will not on shortly with the Australian Open starting Monday Jan 18). Series link, however, does not at this stage seem to work for 7TWO shows.

That leaves channel 9 the only free to air channel (metro) not to offer an accurate to the minute EPG as well as series linking for their regular shows. Perhaps this may change now that Seven is on board. Hopefully, while they are at it, they will also pay the fee to have GO on Foxtel satellite.
