Hosted by the effervescent James O'Loghlin, The New Inventors highlights the brightest new inventions in Australia.
Tonight's show features new ideas on how to pour the perfect beer by computer; design a moving sign; and know when it's getting hot in the hay.
Deciding the winner of these three inventions are designer Alison Page, designer and inventor Sally Dominguez, and woodworker and teacher - Richard Vaughan.
Inventions featured on the program:
Invention 1 - BARILLIANT by inventors Bruce Lilley and Raymond Klugman from NSW.
The Barilliant is a touch screen computer system which helps publicans manage the liquid side of their business. By using specially developed flow meters and valves along with proprietary software, the Barilliant is able to monitor the bar staff’s pouring ability and every millilitre of beer dispensed without compromising the 'art of the pour'. At the same time it can help publicans minimise loss when cleaning their lines and ensure customers always get the perfect beer. Barilliant - keeps tabs on the bar
Invention 2 - ROTOSIGN by inventor John Brennan from QLD.
If colour and movement are what you want in signage, then the Rotosign could be the answer. John Brennan's invention is a system for making eye catching signs which can be reconfigured to make new designs or words simply by moving lots of tiny gears around. Rotosign can be rearranged to make it say something different every day at no additional cost, and with minimal power usage. Rotosign - the sign you design
Invention 3 - HAY LOOK OUT by inventor Han Van Wyk from VIC.
When Han Van Wyk heard about farmers’ hay stacks self-igniting, he started to think of a simple way farmers could tell if bales are heating inside. His invention is the Hay Look Out, a hollow pipe bent into an L-shape, which is permanently inserted into hay bales. When the internal bale temperature reaches 60ºC, an alloy pin inside the Hay Look Out melts, releasing an orange indicator that can be easily seen outside the hay bale, even from a distance - a warning that the bale needs attention. Hay Look Out - the hay bale early warning
The New Inventors will be repeated on ABC2 - Friday, July 18 at 4:30pm
