Red Symons and Ana Andre - Dancing With the Stars 2008

Red Symons

Red Symons is probably best known as lead guitarist with Skyhooks and as the snide judge of “Red faces”, a segment of the long-running Hey Hey It’s Saturday variety television show. He currently hosts 774 ABC Melbourne’s breakfast radio show and is the judge we love to hate on
Seven’s ratings blockbuster Australia’s Got Talent.

Symons came to Australia at the age of nine. He studied mathematics and computer science at university, earning a Bachelor of Science degree, before joining seminal Australian rock band Skyhooks as a guitarist in the 1970s. Symons also worked in the theatre as a musical director for several organisations, including the pram factory, a famous 1970s Melbourne theatre group.

Through the 1980s and 1990s, he combined his on-air role on hey hey (also playing in the house band) with composing for various film and television shows, and jingle writing.

When the show ended in 1999 Symons began writing for the age newspaper and appearing in a weekly spot on 774 ABC Melbourne. At one point he filled in for Lynne Haultain and was such a hit he ended up in the
hot seat permanently.

Symons is a regular guest on television game and panel shows, testing his mental skills in any number of ways. In a made-for-television
australian national IQ test, he tested higher than any of the other celebrities.

In october 2005, Symons competed in and won the celebrity Family Feud
special on temptation alongside his wife Elly. He also competed in
Australia’s Who wants to Be a Millionaire? getting as far as the $500,000 question in 2004, at which point a wrong answer caused him to lose the majority of the money, going away with $32, 000 for his chosen charity. He also competed in the Network Ten’s Australia’s Brainiest comedian in november 2005 where he came third and is a regular guest on ABC’s the Einstein factor.

Ana Andre

Ana Andre’s diverse dancing influences truly exemplifies the exciting new generation of Latin American dancers in Australia today.

Regarded as one of the finest female Argentine tango dancers in Australia and New Zealand, Andre studied callisthenics and martial arts, as well as Modern dance and Jazz, to form a strong basis for her
latin American dance style.

Currently managing and teaching at the Back to Back Australia latin American performing arts Studio, Andre has been dancing alongside Fabio Roble in the Ole Ola Latin Dance Spectacular for seven years.

Andre was one of the main dancers in the national theatre’s 2002 production of ‘One night In Buenos Aires’ and has also had lead dancing roles at the Melbourne International festival, Crown Entertainment complex and numerous television specials.

She has appeared in numerous television commercials and previously
held a guest acting role on Blue heelers.
