Leon manages to get Elizabeth an insultingly small role as a servant in a costume drama. It's the final straw as far as she is concerned, and she decides to move agents. Having made the decision however, it's an entirely different matter breaking the news to the volatile Leon.
Matt, meanwhile, sneaks off to meet his ex-girlfriend, Heidi Webster. Heidi has written an ultra-violent, torture-porn, endurance-horror novel and Matt's old boss, Stephen, has convinced Matt to sign her. Contrary to Matt's opinion that it is a pile of rubbish, Stephen insists her novel has the potential to be the next big thing. But what will Elizabeth say when she finds out Matt has been colluding with his ex?

Matt (Hugh Bonneville) attempts to woo the latest overpaid TV historian, Bamber Jones, (Tim McInnerny) in the hope of editing his new book. To Elizabeth's (Elizabeth McGovern) horror, Matt invites Bamber, a renowned food snob, to dinner, claiming that she is the best chef in East Chiswick.
To add to the pressure of the evening, Leon (who has moved in with the couple while he figures out how to get rid of a violent stalker) decides to gatecrash the Bamber dinner with a potential new client, the latest teenage It Girl, Alison Fennel (Ruth Wilson).
While Matt rushes to brush up on his American history, ready for the big night, Elizabeth frantically struggles to perfect her pasta malfatti. But will it be enough to impress the great Bamber Jones?

Freezing is a contemporary, relationship comedy - full of heart - about a couple living and working from home together. And about what a nightmare that is.
Hugh Bonneville (Iris, Doctor Zhivago, Tipping The Velvet) and Elizabeth McGovern (Once Upon a Time in America, Ragtime) star as Matt and Elizabeth, a middle-aged couple who should be in the prime of their lives, but instead find themselves jobless, forced to spend 24 hours at home in each other's company and driving each other crazy!
Elizabeth is an Oscar-nominated actress, but her film work has dried up and now she wonders where the next job will come from.
Matt has just been replaced by his assistant at the publishing firm where he worked for 15 years. As a result - and for the first time in their marriage - Matt and Elizabeth now have to spend their days together at home - two freelancers seeking work.
