Officer Megan de Winne recognises a red car and pulls it over for a routine car check. That leads into a car search, and a search of the car's occupants. The front passenger has drugs on him and then Officer de Winne finds a knife. This routine car check has turned into a drug bust.

Officer Mick McCrann receives a report that someone has gone to police after nearly being run over by a drunk driver. The witness has followed the car and has passed on a description of the driver and given them the driver's address. Officer McCrann arrives at the house to find a woman matching the description of the driver but she's denying she drove the car. She is taken back to the station and her alcohol reading is almost five times over the legal limit.

Robert is driving back from getting his full license at Vic Roads when he is pulled over for speeding - 130klm in a 110klm zone. He doesn't believe Officer Ivan Bosnjak and demands to see the radar reading. Faced with the evidence he calms down. He still has his P Plates on his car because he thinks they help him "pull chicks".

Back on the road Officer Bosnjak catches a truck driver running a red light. But this trucker is packed full of attitude and is going to give Bosnjak a piece of his mind. Further checks reveal the truck's trailer is unregistered.

Shot on the streets of Melbourne, HIGHWAY PATROL offers a rare glimpse into the day-to-day lives of the officers who take on two types of dangerous offenders - the criminal and their vehicle. For the members of the Traffic Police, high-speed car chases with defiant hooligans, explosive crashes and out-of-control drunk drivers are regular hazards in the line of duty.
