US version, and Australia, gets slammed by reviewers

TV reviewers in the US have shown absolutely no mercy to the US version of Australia's hit comedy series Kath & Kim and have even gone as far as saying it's so bad that it warrants severing trade relations with Australia.

Check out some of these quotes:

"If you thought all those gag-inducing ads for Kath & Kim that NBC ran during the Olympics were awful, wait until you check out the actual show. Better yet, don't bother."

"It is based on a comedy that originated in Australia and it might be just cause to immediately cease trade relations with that country."

-- Chuck Barney, Contra Costa Times

"an unpleasant way to spend a half-hour".

-- Rob Owen, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

What do you think of the trailer?

Even if they had seen the original, do you think they would have "got it" or even "appreciated it" for what it is?

Aussie culture and slang are very different from American and I imagine they would probably have been even more [naively] unkind.

i want to know if these critics have seen the original version of kath and kim. it is unfair to tar the original and the adaptation with the same brush, the original version is so funny and the humour uniquely australian, it would be impossible to translate to an american version.
