"Is she gonna become the great Bonanza City dictator?" After watching the Kids obsess about the Arcade, Sheriff Sophia devises an experiment to see how far they'll go to get what they cannot have. Sophia claims a small plot of land in the centre of town and refuses to allow anyone to cross her borders without paying her a nickel! Soon enough, Sophia's plot of land becomes the most desired real estate in Bonanza City and the Sheriff is literally fighting to keep Kids off of her land. Emilie watches Sophia's antics and worries, "She's starting to get too power hungry and selfish."

After reading the latest entry in the Pioneer Journal, the Town Council decides to go on an adventure to explore the land outside Bonanza City. At breakfast, the boys announce that they're leaving Bonanza City, and they're not sure when or if they'll be back. They then leave Sheriff Sophia in charge of the entire Town during their absence.

Some Kids complain that they didn't elect Sophia as their leader, while others complain that all the Kids outside the Council should be equal. Mike ponders, "Is she gonna become the great Bonanza City dictator?" The TownsKids protest the Council's decision, but the boys refuse to alter their plan: "Well that's too bad," are Greg's parting words as the Council leaves the Mess Hall.

"Go beyond our boundaries"
Sophia declares that she won't open the Arcade until the jobs have been completed. Sophia does actually get the Town to work, but much to the TownsKids' surprise, their new Sheriff uses positive reinforcement instead of punishment. And before they know it, the Kids have cleaned up the stores, hauled water, and washed the dishes without any of the usual fighting. Taylor especially takes a liking to Sophia's leadership style. Taylor tells Sophia that she's being a good leader, and Sophia takes notice of Taylor's hard work.

Satisfied that the Town is in order, Sophia opens the Arcade, and soon many of the Kids are hard at play. But not everyone is completely obsessed with the Arcade. The Green Kids prefer to hang out around Town, talking with each other during their last couple of days. And former city slicker Zach would rather milk a goat than play video games.

Miles from Bonanza City, the Council hikes over the hills and discovers the teepees of a Pueblo village. The Chief and his people welcome the teenagers with a tribal dance celebrating their arrival. The Boys chat with the Chief about their life in Bonanza City and ask for advice about how to deal with younger children. The Chief advises the older boys to lead by example "because as kids they're being completely molded by everything that's around them."

Back in Bonanza City, Alex and Jared have grown tired of the Arcade and decide to go on a little adventure of their own. The two brilliant little boys hike a few hundred yards from Town and discover a cow skeleton in a ravine. Alex and Jared excitedly examine the cow bones and discuss how they could tell their age if only they had access to carbon dating equipment. As they head back to Town with a few choice bones, Jared quips "Pelvis has left the building, baby!"
