Special guest star Brian Dennehy as Judson Tierney! Det. Stabler is with his family at church, where his twins are being confirmed. The Priest asks him a favour and Stabler agrees to hear the dying confession of a cancer patient named Judson Tierney (Brian Dennehy).
On his day off, Stabler goes to the hospital to visit Tierney who is on the verge of death. Tierney asks Stabler to bring his estranged daughter Sheila to him so he can tell them both at the same time. When Sheila is finally located, she reveals that she doesn’t want to see her fatherand shows the detectives hundreds of unopened cards with hundred-dollar bills inside and wants them to show her father that she never even opened them.
After DNA and fingerprints were taken from the envelopes, it's found that Tierney has a record – the money in the cards was very old and tracked to a string of bank robberies from the 1960’s.
Tierney was one half of the crime duo called The Fedora Bandits, who were never caught. It is also discovered that Sheila’s mother Lenore Tierney, was not her biological mother – Jud’s mistress, Suzanne Mollinax, gave him a love child and Lenore raised her as her own.
Benson and Stabler keep digging and find evidence in Tierney’s backyard, where they find the mummified body of Jack Colino, the other half of the Fedora Bandits.
With a dead partner-in-crime, a mistress, a love child and the prime suspect heavily drugged on morphine, how will Det. Stabler and Benson solve this crime that goes back 47 years?
