Judge Harvey Frye is presiding over a high profile child-custody case between film producer Clay Darren (Steve Guttenberg) and his famous actress wife Christine, who are clients of his wife, Monica (a marriage counsellor).

Later, Monica is shot to death by a gunman outside her kitchen window and it seems the shooter was a professional. When Det. Falacci and Logan start investigating, he thinks the killer is one of her patients while she is certain the Brooklyn divorce-court judge has something to do with it.

Ron Hawk is introduced as the private investigator, hired by Christine to spy on her soon-to-be ex-husband. He seems to have something to do with the case and it's known that his clients always win because he's able to get dirt on their spouses to use against them.

Did Ron kill the judge’s wife and was he framing Clay? Or did Clay do it to get back at the judge? What was Christine’s role in all of this?
