Imagine if we really understood the secret worlds of our children's minds as they develop. What impact do parents, teachers and the outside world have? Why are some children resilient and others not? How, and in what way are Australian children unique? How do you give a child the best chance at life?

The Life At 1 series returns to ABC1 for an encore screening on Tuesday September 23 and Tuesday September 30 at 8:30pm.
Life At 1 is the first instalment in a landmark series that aims to unlock the secrets of a child's development by following 11 babies and their families for seven years or longer.

Produced in association with Film Australia, the series is based on the first ever Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC) undertaken by the Institute of Family Studies. 10,000 children, aged from one to four, contributed to the nation's richest archive about what it is like to be a child growing up in Australia and Life At 1 echoes this monumental study.

Like those in the study, the families in the series come from different walks of life.. As we follow the babies through milestone events as well as days of ordinary routine, we witness the impact on their lives of factors such as their parents' relationships, finances, work, health and education.

Part 2 - Tuesday, September 30 at 8:30pm
Join six of our babies to find out if the stress of modern living is too much stress for a child, and if parental stress is affecting our kids. Is a childcare centre the right start for Declan? How is Wyatt handling a hectic schedule with teenage parents? What's the fallout when Shine's dad loses his job, or when Sofia's mum goes back to work? Does it make a difference when Joshua's dad spends more time at home? And will Daniel cope when tragedy hits the family?
