A fifth series of Channel Seven’s MEDICAL EMERGENCY is now in pre-production, with filming to commence in late September.

This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, a man has been travelling for 40 hours to get treatment for his badly broken leg, a 79 year-old woman has been hit by a car and a truck driver may have suffered a heart attack.

In Sydney, a man has come straight from the airport after an agonising 40 hour trip to get medical assistance. Finn’s accident was two days ago and with the bone broken through the skin, he runs a high risk of infection.

Paramedics in Melbourne have been called to a Code One and 40 year-old truck driver Craig needs to be taken to hospital after crashing his truck through someone’s side fence. Paramedics are worried the cause of Craig’s crash may have been a heart attack.

Meanwhile in Emergency, a 79 year-old woman has been brought in after being hit by a car. Olive will need her first ever stitches after being knocked to the ground by a reversing car.

A speedway champion has an accident that could end it all, paramedics are on a Code One callout to a motorcycle accident and a young woman is suffering from a life-threatening flesh-eating bacteria.

A speedway champion has arrived at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital with suspected spinal injuries. Stuart suffered paralysis at the scene of the accident and paramedics are worried. Stuart will need scans of his neck and back to see if he’s damaged his spine. His 25 year racing career may now be over.

A young woman has arrived at The Alfred from a country hospital. Clair has a flesh eating bacteria which if not treated quickly and aggressively, can cause disfiguring wounds and even death. Doctors need to get on top of her infection quickly before it eats away any more soft tissue. In addition to oxygen therapy, Clair is being dosed with strong antibiotics. She is still critically ill and may have numerous surgeries ahead.

A young girl has been crushed by her 600 kilogram horse, a man loses consciousness and runs into a parked car, and a cyclist has an accident and one wrong move could cause him to bleed to death.

Paramedics are called to a car crash. A 55 year-old man has lost consciousness and run into a parked car. Paramedics need to get Ray out of his car safely so they can assess his injuries and work out why he blacked out.

A cyclist has been brought in by ambulance after colliding into the back of a parked car. Andrew needs scans to reveal if his doctor’s fears are justified.

A 16-year-old has been crushed when she fell from her horse. Brooke has suspected pelvic and leg injuries after her 660 kilo horse fell on her during a riding event. Brooke’s pelvis x-rays bring bad news.

This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, paramedics are called to an overturned car – a woman’s been hurt and they need to move her fast. Plus, a young man has fallen from a tree and a stack on the track is bad news for Peter.

A vintage car race has ended in a five car pile up and one man is trapped. The track’s Emergency Response team has freed the man and Peter will be flown to the Alfred where doctors will investigate the pain in his back.

Meanwhile at the Alfred Hospital, a man has been brought in to the Trauma Unit after falling out of a tree. X Rays will determine if there s any serious damage.

In Melbourne, paramedics are one a Code One call out to an overturned car. Paramedic Craig needs to find out if Susan’s been seriously injured but first she needs to be moved out of harm’s way.

A champion water skier’s career could be over after she crashes during a competition, fixing Mum’s fence was never meant to be dangerous and paramedics respond to a child in desperate need after a shocking car accident.

A car with five passengers has run off the road and into a tree. A five-year-old child is only one of the two surviving passengers which forces paramedics to re-think their approach. Doses of medication change and smaller children can be difficult to intubate. They decide that Connor needs the most urgent attention. His condition has already begun to deteriorate and he needs urgent medical assessment. Trauma staff at the Children’s Hospital are on standby to assess and treat Connor’s injuries.

A 20-year-old tradesman has shot himself with a nail gun while fixing his Mum’s fence. Emergency staff at the Alfred must try to remove the 4 inch nail from the back of Ross’ foot.

This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, a single mum’s life hangs in the balance after a high speed head-on accident, a little boy’s day at his grand mothers ends in hospital and a skateboarder is confused and disorientated after a fall.

At the scene of a head-on collision, local fire crews work to free a woman with suspected head and spinal injuries. 33-year old Tamara is still unconscious and desperately needs paramedic’s help. They don’t know it yet but with the severity of Tamara’s injuries, she will almost need a miracle to survive.

Two-year-old Roman has been brought in with burns after pulling a saucepan of boiling water off his grandmother’s stove. The trauma staff’s first priority is to provide pain relief. In the rush to get Roman to hospital, there is no time to tell his mother about the accident. If his burns are worse than first thought, Roman may need skin grafts to help his recovery.

This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, doctors have to stop a man’s heart, a four-year-old has dropped an axe on his toe and a professional jockey has a horrendous accident.

A 43-year old man is suffering from a dangerously high heart rate. Mate’s heart is pumping at more than 240 beats a minute, nearly four times the normal rate. Attempts by trauma staff to slow his heart using the drug Adenosine do not work. If the second dose fails, they are going to have to take more extreme measures.

In Sydney’s St George hospital, four-year old Aden has been brought in by ambulance after dropping an axe on his toe.

A 25-year-old jockey has been flown to the Alfred Hospital after a fall during a trial race in Balnarring. Staff are concerned his painful ankle injury could mask the symptoms of something more sinister. Scans of Leigh’s neck come back and the news is not good.

This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, a swimmer is pulled from a pool without a heart beat, a young child is in need of urgent medical help and a kitchen nightmare has landed a young mum in emergency.

An ambulance helicopter has been dispatched to a 15-month-old boy who is suffering a severe allergic reaction. If not treated immediately, anaphylaxis can lead to breathing difficulties, loss of consciousness and even death. Logan’s face has begun to swell and paramedics are worried he could rapidly deteriorate.

A Chinese delegate is admitted to hospital after falling and injuring his back. Mr Zhang has to have scans to determine the extent of his injuries. The news is not good but Doctors are unable to advise him how serious his condition is due to a language barrier.

This week on Medical Emergency, an elderly woman suffers head injuries after being struck by a bus, a semi-trailer crash could result in the loss of a leg and a motorcycling accident may signal the end of a career.

80-year old Kim is treated for suspected head injury after being hit by a bus. The situation is made more difficult as Kim does not speak English and paramedics need to communicate to evaluate the extent of her head injury. As they load her into the ambulance, Kim’s condition suddenly starts to deteriorate.

In last week’s episode, Italian motorbike racer Vittorio’s wrist and hand were shattered in an accident and surgery was required to repair the damage. Minutes into the operation, surgeons make an unhappy discovery.

Three-year-old Finn has fallen off a couch and his father fears he has broken something.

Channel Seven’s top-rating reality series MEDICAL EMERGENCY will return to our screens next week.

Following the raw emotion and life threatening decisions faced by patients and staff in the emergency department of The Alfred Hospital’s Emergency and Trauma Centre and Sandringham and District Memorial Hospital in Melbourne.

The fourth dramatic series returns on Tuesday June 3 at 9.30pm, following All Saints.

Narrated by actor Chris Gabardi, MEDICAL EMERGENCY was the number one medical show last year, with an average audience of over 1.4 million viewers.

Dom remains in traction while a female motorbike racer is rushed to the hospital following a high-speed crash.

Air paramedics rush to the aid of amateur motorbike racer, Michelle, who has crashed on Phillip Island after doing speeds of more than 200 km/ph.

Dom, who has broken his neck in three places following a tragic car crash, needs to be outfitted with a ‘halo’ to prevent paralysis and quadriplegia.

Across town at Sandringham Hospital, three-year-old Max needs to get a cut on his head glued together after falling over during a game of Tiggy.

Meanwhile, 52-year-old Lynne has been admitted after spending a night with agonising pain in her thumb following a household accident.

A man is admitted following a collision with a bus and a carpenter appears at The Alfred hoping to get his finger reattached.

Colin the carpenter arrives at The Alfred after losing one of his fingers in an accident involving a circular saw.

Meanwhile Andrew and Pete, the two electricians who sustained burns from a high voltage electric shock, are dealing with the aftermath of their injuries.

Shane, a 35-year-old motorcyclist, has arrived at The Alfred via helipad after colliding with a bus on the Great Ocean Road. Shane is suffering from severe blood loss, several broken ribs, a broken collarbone, scapula and a collapsed lung.

Paramedics have come to the aid of 80-year-old Theo, who has broken his ankle but who is unable to feel any pain due to a neurological condition.

An air ambulance paramedic rescues his boss while Beijing Olympic hopeful Christian undergoes intensive heart surgery.

Paramedic Pete, part of the helicopter division of the Victorian Air Service, is called to the aid of his boss, Greg, who may have broken his ribs after being hit by a car.

Young athlete Christian has been brought in to the Alfred with a failing heart and is immediately taken into surgery. In order to find the problem section, Christian has electrodes inserted through his groin and into his heart to probe the area – and Christian must be awake through the entire procedure.

Dutch professional tennis player Shalina has cut her hand on glass during her farewell party in Holland and is concerned her homeland doctor did not remove all the glass.

Electricians Andrew and Peter are rushed into trauma after receiving traumatic burns from a massive high voltage electric shock after a 22 thousand volt cable exploded in their hands.

This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, a 30-year-old motorcyclist arrives at The Alfred with a broken leg while a 20-year-old athlete is admitted with suspected heart failure.

At the Alfred, 30-year-old Brad has been admitted with a badly broken leg following a high-speed motorcycle accident. While getting a traction splint to stabilise his condition, Brad has an unusual request – he’d like an Alfred bear.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old learner driver Liam remains in an unconscious state following his car accident.

Olympic hopeful Christian has arrived at The Alfred with suspected heart failure and needs heart surgery. To complicate matters, Christian will need to be awake during the entire operation.

And paramedics have been called to the aid of coffee shop owner Karen, an epileptic who has been electrocuted.
