MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Series 3, Episode 4
Tuesday August 7
8:00pm (PG)
In tonight’s episode of MEDICAL EMERGENCY, Air Ambulance paramedics respond to two critical motorbike accidents in difficult mountainous terrain. And we revisit speedway champion Shaun, who suffered spinal injuries in a devastating accident.
Last week on Medical Emergency, 28-year-old race car driver Shaun arrived at The Alfred following a horrendous accident while defending his third Victorian title. Shaun lost control of his car and the resulting crash has left him with a crushed vertebra in his back. Will surgeons be able to operate and prevent him from being paralysed?
Air Ambulance paramedics respond to a code one emergency. A motorbike rider is unconscious after a bad fall and the remote, mountainous location makes it difficult for paramedics to get to him. A local micra crew are already treating the patient, but as the police and paramedics set off to attend the critically-ill patient, they are called to a second accident with another injured motorcyclist nearby.
Across town, one-year-old Corey has arrived at the Sandringham Hospital after spraying household chemicals into his face. Corey’s mum responded quickly by flushing his face and eyes with water, but is it too late to save young Corey from chemicals burns?
Meanwhile, paramedics have been called out to 86-year-old Margaret who has fallen in the street. She’s on her way to hospital with a suspected broken arm and a ruptured eye that requires surgery. Can the team of surgeons save her sight?
Back at The Alfred, 41-year-old Daniel has been involved in an accident at work and an unusually large splinter is protruding from his leg. He’s been given local anesthetic and nitrous oxide to help with the pain while doctors remove the wood.
MEDICAL EMERGENCY is narrated by Chris Gabardi.

While watching this programme you feel like you are there with the ambos and experience the difficulty of their job and the professionism they display at the scene and the hospitals. A great way to be proud of our emergency services that we so often take for granted and abuse. The camera work is brilliant and a all round well edited show. I really hope that the show runs another season. Well done and brilliant work by all involved.. Gwen
