This week on MEDICAL EMERGENCY, a swimmer is pulled from a pool without a heart beat, a young child is in need of urgent medical help and a kitchen nightmare has landed a young mum in emergency.

An ambulance helicopter has been dispatched to a 15-month-old boy who is suffering a severe allergic reaction. If not treated immediately, anaphylaxis can lead to breathing difficulties, loss of consciousness and even death. Logan’s face has begun to swell and paramedics are worried he could rapidly deteriorate.

A Chinese delegate is admitted to hospital after falling and injuring his back. Mr Zhang has to have scans to determine the extent of his injuries. The news is not good but Doctors are unable to advise him how serious his condition is due to a language barrier.

A man has been found unconscious in a swimming pool. Pulled from the pool in cardiac arrest, lifeguards and the local fire crew have started CPR on the 49-year-old. When paramedics arrive Ian is not breathing and his heart is not beating. Ian has been clinically dead for eight minutes. They need to get oxygen to his brain immediately if he is to survive.

At Melbourne’s Sandringham hospital, a mother of two has cut herself in an unfortunate blender incident. It may look like a small laceration but it doesn’t feel that way to Caroline.
