The season finale of Sea Patrol airs this Thursday July 29 at 8.30pm. In its timeslot from Thursday August 5 will be repeats of the Mentalist which seem to do very well in ratings.

After a week off, new episodes of Cold Case continue on Sunday nights at 9.30pm with repeats at 10.30.

Seems that Tuesday nights have stabilised now on Nine, with no further amendments to having 20 To 1 follow New Top Gear from 9pm and Adults Only Commercial Breakdown at 9.45pm.

Meanwhile, on GO! - programming changes continue to be rampant with five of the movies in the advanced guides changing to other titles in the week ahead. God only knows what the printed guides say!

A very predictable programming change from Nine.

On Monday June 14, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and The Mentalist will all be repeats. This is the week that the second State of Origin will be aired so Nine know they will almost certainly win that week in ratings regardless.

The fact that repeats of these three shows rate almost as well as new episodes means Nine can prolong the their run by inserting repeats assuming that most people will still watch them anyway.

While this practise of “managing stock” will help the network out with ratings in later weeks, it can be frustrating for viewers who have to negotiate trying to follow when new episodes of the shows they enjoy are aired. It could also be viewed as a sign that Nine are unsure what will replace these shows (other than more repeats) once their new episodes have been played out.

20 To 1
Bert Newton is coming back with 20 To 1 returning to Nine at 9.30 Wednesday June 9. 20-1 will also follow the State of Origin on June 16 at about 10.15pm, billed as an “Adults Only” offering. This means that Who Do You Think You Are is off, once the episode on June 2 has aired. The June 9 20-1 counts down the top 20 “caught on tape” which highlights the most captivating events captured by a video camera.

The timeslot for 20-1 on June 16 is for eastern states only. Adelaide and Perth viewers have a very different program for Nine on that night due to delayed State of Origin coverage.

The Mentalist
Assuming Nine don’t through in another repeat, the season two finale of the Mentalist is scheduled for Monday, June 14 at 8.30pm. As this is the same week the second State of Origin is played, there is a good chance that Nine will hold off the final new episode until June 21.

Late Sunday night, I decided to watch Underbelly: The Golden Mile I had recorded earlier. As I chose the recording from my PVR, my fingers were poised on the fast forward button in readiness to fast forward through the usual five to ten minute overrun of 60 Minutes.

To my surprise, however, the immediate beginning of the recording showed the last minute of 60 Minutes, then credits rolled, then Underbelly started. Allowing for the two minute pre-overrun of the recording (meaning it started recording at 8.28) that meant Underbelly started at exactly 8.30pm. While the first two minutes were made up of a montage basically summing up the series so far, it still came as a surprise to see the show actually start on time and not up to ten minutes late as used to be typical for channel Nine. At the same time, Ten’s 8.30 show was scheduled for 8.36 by the EPG while Seven also started Bones later than 8.30.
