AT THE MOVIES: SPECIAL
Sunday, 16 December 2007
Each year at this time, Margaret and David work a little way ahead to give us an idea about what movies will be worth watching over the summer period. Here are some of the films they will review on tonight's special edition of At the Movies: Darjeeling Ltd starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman, including interviews with Jason Schwartzman and director Wes Anderson.
Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other - to become brothers again, like they used to be. Their 'spiritual quest' however, veers rapidly off-course and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer and a laminating machine.
I'm Not There starring Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Richard Gere, including interviews with director Todd Haynes and Heath Ledger. A biopic of the life of Bob Dylan, where seven actors take on a different aspect of the musician's life and work.
No Country For Old Men - a thriller by Ethan and Joel Coen starring Javier Bardem, Tommy-Lee Jones, Woodey Harrelson and Josh Brolin - including interviews with the Coen Brothers.
American Gangster - starring Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington and Josh Brolin. In 1970s America, a detective (Crowe) works to bring down the drug empire of Frank Lucas (Washington), a heroin kingpin from Manhattan, who is smuggling the drug into the country in the coffins of soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.
Atonement - starring James McAvoy and Keira Knightley. A romance/drama adapted from the book of the same title by Ian McEwan. Fledgling writer Briony Tallis, as a 13-year-old, irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister's (Keira Knightley) lover (James McAvoy) of a crime he didn't commit.
