The weeknight discussion program The Drum comes to ABC1 for six weeks in a special summer series, starting on Monday, 9th January. The program will also extend to a full-hour during the six week run.

Running on both ABC News24 and ABC1, The Drum’s lively panel of guests will chew over the day’s events each night at 6pm, from Monday to Friday.

Annabel Crabb, Steve Cannane and Tim Palmer will share the hosting duties over summer for intelligent, energetic and sometimes irreverent discussion and argument.

On Friday nights, Peter Wilkins referees a colourful, informative and opinionated panel in the special sports edition of The Drum.

“The Drum is a great space for robust debate and intelligent and entertaining discussion.  It will be a welcome addition to ABC1 over summer following its success on ABC News24,” said ABC1 Controller Brendan Dahill.

From Monday 9th January until Friday 17th February, you can watch The Drum on ABC1 and ABC News24.

Starting On Sunday December the 4th is Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week. Here are the programs:

8.30pm – PREMIERE – Jaws Comes Home: Return of Great Whites

7.30pm – PREMIERE – Rogue Sharks
The existence of man-eating “rogue” sharks has bee hotly debated since the 1950′s, this film reveals the truth by analysing some of the most notorious attacks.

8.30pm – Ultimate Air Jaws
This features massive great whites exploding from the water in a sneak attack on their seal prey. Videographers will be experimenting with different techniques to better capture Air Jaws. Though the sharks in-flight time can be less than a second, a great white shark can propel itself up to 10 feet into the air.

9.30pm – Mysteries Of The Shark Coast
In ‘Mysteries of the Shark Coast’ a cross-discipline scientific team undertake the largest shark tagging expedition in history. Australia has more kinds of sharks than anywhere else in the world, but they are disappearing from the Great Barrier Reef. A group of scientists, conservationists and film makers are on a mission to discover the cause for their mysterious decline. Watch as they deploy underwater cameras to explore and record shark behaviour and come face to face in order to fit them with a chip that will track their movement. By doing this, they will be able to gather new insight into the still largely secretive life of the ocean’s ultimate predator.

Thursday the 8th of December

7.30pm – PREMIERE – Great White Invasion
Great white sharks are being routinely sighted off of some of thye world’s most popular beaches. Shark researchers hope to discover why they are suddenly appearing.

8.30pm – Sharkbite Beach
In one shocking month of 2008, the Pacific coastline of Southern California and Mexico suddenly became the focus for shark-experts and shark-hunters everywhere, as it played host to three attacks, an impassioned local backlash worthy of Amity Island and an unending trail of close shaves. It was fast, furious… and followed blow-by-blow by millions of people in a completely new way, using communication technology that had moved on apace since America’s last ‘summer of the shark’ in 2001. The film captures the reality of shark attacks in the twenty-first century. For in 2008 as soon as an unlucky swimmer or surfer encounters a predator, his own story is a hit on the web, multiplying interest exponentially. Witnesses and victims instantly share their accounts, their photos and their videos of a sighting, a bite – even a death. Shark Bite Beach tells the story of those chaotic weeks – through the testimony of survivors, and the gripping accounts of eyewitnesses. It also explores how those who have seen friends and family attacked by sharks come to terms with their loss and, in some cases, return to the ocean.

9.30pm – Air Jaws
Shark experts study the amazing jumping great white sharks in South Africa’s False Bay.

Friday the 9th of December

7.30pm – Summer Of The Shark
As before

8.30pm – Shark Attack Survivors
Looks at why sharks attack humans, as well as the best ways to survive an attack.

9.30pm – Great White Appetite
How many pounds of food can a Great White Shark consume in one meal? Watch Great White Appetite and find out the shocking results!

The Great White is one of the most of the most feared predators on earth as well as one of it’s most efficient hunters. The Great White Shark patrols the shores of more than fifty percent of the world’s inhabited coastlines, and yet, besides the fact that they’ve killed hundreds of people, we know almost nothing about them. Its incredible appetite is more of a mystery than anything else about the shark. Remarkably, scientists don’t have any accurate data on the Great White’s population, mating, traveling or even what drives their feeding behavior. Observe first hand the experiments that let us uncover the Great Whites unique eating habits. We will travel the globe, stopping at three major Great White feeding grounds – Seal Island, South Africa; Adelaide, Australia and Guadalupe Island, Mexico and administer incredibly visual experiments in an effort to answer this and many other fascinating questions!

10.30pm – River Monsters With Jeremy Wade
As before.

Saturday the 10th of December

7.30pm – Mythbusters: Jaws Special
The team are going to put the bite on some of the movies most fascinating myths in this “Jaws’” special.

8.30pm – Rogue  Sharks
As Before

9.30pm – Shark Attack File
This harrowing hour reveals the science behind what triggers sharks to attack at certain times of day, and what rules humans should follow to avoid incident. Interactions between sharks and humans have bloody consequences when a Great White invades the high tides for some surfers in the early morning hours near Monterey, California, a tiger shark attacks a Peace Corps Worker in the late afternoon in Tonga, South  Pacific Islands and a bull shark targets a college student who goes for a late night swim in Sarasota, Florida. This gripping hour reminds viewers that sharks are predictable animals-for the most part.  But can break the rules when you are a visitor in their vast and complex ocean, where anything can happen.

There is big news on the Glee front with lots of new casting news.

Ricky Martin is in talks to appear as “the hotteset Spanish teacher in Ohio” according to US sources. He will apparently have two big musical numbers. Will it be the girls or boys who get the biggest crush on him?

Gloria Estefan is also in talks to appear as Santana’s mother. According to EW.com, the Fox musical dramedy even plans to use some of Estefan’s songs in her episode, including a few bilingual tunes. In an episode that has aired in the US already, there is great need for Santana to need her mum.

The Glee producers are also looking for other characters to join this season. They are:

Coach Roz Washington, for which the show is seeking a well-known comedic character actress in her 30s or 40s.

Synchronized Swim Team members Webber, Charles, and Vinny, who are respectively described as “a nerdy looking girl” of any ethnicity, “a handsome African-American boy,” and “a nerdy looking boy” of any ethnicity.
