Tweeting has been banned at this year’s Logies ceremony in an effort to stop the results hitting the internet before they are screened to viewers.

With the ceremony broadcast on a 30-minute delay, there is a window for attendees to spoil the surprise for viewers watching at home.

Hence this year’s invitations carry the words:  ”Please note, mobiles will not be permitted. Your co-operation is appreciated.”

”It is because of the tweeting,” a Logies source confirmed yesterday. ”I think we saw the tweeting in the past as being a bit mean-spirited and felt it detracted from the evening.”

Last year, several inappropriate tweets were posted during the ceremony, most notably by Catherine Deveny who tweeted about 11-year-old Bindi Irwin: ‘I do so hope Bindi Irwin gets laid.”

New South Wales’ Sammy and Bella Jakubiak are the first team through to the MY KITCHEN RULES grand final after defeating Western Australia’s Daniela Pirone and Stefania Muscara in a nail-biting semi-final sudden death cook-off.

The Sydney sisters needed the highest ever sudden death cook-off score of 53/60 in order to beat the WA cousins, who were narrowly defeated on 50 points.

The two teams had to prepare their best three-course menu for judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel and guest judges Tobie Puttock, Guy Grossi, Karen Martini and Liz Egan. It was a close decision, with the judges full of praise for each team. “This is what I was expecting at this point of the competition, food of this calibre, ” Pete said.

Sammy and Bella produced an Asian-inspired menu consisting of Szechuan style soup, smoked duck breast and spiced crème caramel. Each of the judges commended the girls on raising the bar. “Every mouthful was an adventure for me,” Pete said. “That’s what real cooking is about.”

Daniela and Stefania opted for an Italian menu featuring potato and ricotta ravioloni, osso bucco and zuccotto filled with ricotta, chocolate and mascarpone.

While the vivacious cousins gave it their all, it wasn’t enough to beat their younger counterparts. “It’s been such a wonderful experience for Manu and I to have you in this competition,” Pete said to them afterwards.

The women were upbeat despite their defeat. “Our experience on My Kitchen Rules has been one hell of a ride,” Daniela said. “Cooking will always be a part of our life and now ever more so.”

Tonight it’s the second semi-final. The competition turns into a battle ground as South Australian newlyweds Ann-Marie Battista and Nick Sharp collide with Victorian housemates Kane Lillywhite and Lee Chan. Who will join Sammy and Bella in Wednesday night’s grand final?

MY KITCHEN RULES airs tonight and Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 7.

We have our first indication of how Nine will handle the night of the Royal Wedding in NRL states where the network also has commitments to show NRL games to NSW and QLD.

According to advanced programming, GEM will air the Royal Wedding LIVE from 7pm to 11pm on Friday April 29, while Nine will air NRL into NSW & QLD.

Join Karl Stephanovic and Lisa Wilkinson live from Buckingham Palace, along with special guest Dame Edna Everage and Royal Commentator James Whitaker. Also with Tracey Grimshaw and Kathy Lette from Westminster Abbey.

In AFL states, the Royal Wedding will air Live on Nine, while GEM airs alternative programming on that night.

GO! remains untouched, with its usual mix of Friday night movies.

Over at Seven, the AFL plays live on Seven in Melbourne and Adelaide, the wedding on 7TWO, while the AFL plays on 7mate in Sydney and Brisbane with the wedding on Seven.

As the date gets closer, we will post a summary of what is on which channel where on April 29.

And just as I posted programming amendments for the day – thinking nothing from Nine for once, here comes one from Nine for GO! for TONIGHT – yep – TONIGHT.

Titled “Urgent last minute programming change”, programming tonight on GO! Is completely changed from 9pm, with an extra The Big Bang Theory at 9pm, then not one, not two, not even three or four, but FIVE Adults Only Two and a Half Men episodes in a row from 9.30pm till Midnight.

The five Two and a Half Mens hail from seasons five and six, while $#*! My Dad Says is out – can’t even survive a stable timeslot on GO! and the movie Pineapple Express is also out – well, it was only on a few months ago anyway.

GO! have famously made a number of these super urgent last minute programming changes in its one and a half year history. Some of them are so last minute, that many EPGs do not keep up so people, unless reading websites like this one, have NO IDEA what is on GO! Some TV websites no longer report GO! TV changes as there are so many.

Yet they continue to do it. It only works because so many people now decide what to watch on TV at the last minute.

But these sorts of changes are an insult to many fans holding out for episodes of new content like The Vampire Diaries, Hellcats, Pretty Little Liars, Fringe, Nikita… the list goes on.

And the list of timeslots where we see The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half men over Nine and GO just increases further. Tonight’s last minute change is a further three hours of these shows, on top of the multiple timeslots they already occupy.

Maybe Nine are trying to impress Charlie Sheen?

Winning?

I think not.

What is going on with American Idol?

Why is it, that most seasons, there is a star performer or a favourite who is voted out well before their time?

Last week, one of the favourites, Pia Toscano was eliminated having only made it to 9th place in the season.

Upon announcement of the result, the judges were visibly shocked – Jennifer Lopez especially could not understand what had happened.

The judges had already used the one save allowed for the season to help through another favourite – Casey Abrams – who received the least number of votes during the top 11. This has resulted in this year’s Idol tour being the top 11, instead of the usual top 10.

The judges can only use the save once – perhaps using it during the top 11 was too early – even if Casey was the one of the favourites at the time. His subsequent performances certainly have not stood out.

If a second save was allowed, Pia would have been kept there by the judges.

Celebrities have tweeted their thoughts – Tom Hanks tweeted “how could the USA vote her off”, and “I may be done for the season – HANX.” Ashton Kutcher said “Who are these people that vote on American Idol? That’s just crazy!” while Ellen Degeneres said she was shocked and so sad.

But, all could be a blessing in disguise for Pia, as she is now already signed up with a record contract through Interscope Records. Even before the series reaches its finals, she is in the very position that the rest of the contestants remain fighting for on American Idol.

Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe said he was not taken by surprise, as, knowing full well the voting results each week, Pia’s level of voting had never placed her as a front runner.

He goes on to say that the series may be tweaked for the next season to allow the judges to decide which of the top three go home as opposed to simply being based on the contestant with the lowest popular vote.

American Idol airs in Australia hours after is airs in the US, on FOX8 and FOX8HD with the performance show at 7.30pm Thursdays, Results 7.30pm Fridays. Two hours later on FOX8+2, plus replays the following days and weekend.

This year’s Logies voting system has been defended following the uproar over some of the nominees for the coveted Gold Logie.

ACP Magazines publisher Peter Holder released a statement criticising people of having  a lack of understanding of the online voting system.

“Criticising the Logies may fill air time and space on a page, but we’ve recognised historical faults in the system and have gone to considerable lengths over the last few years, and this year in particular, to address them,” Holder said.

“The voting system this year proved that a determined campaign by talent, as well as broadening the voting process for all TV-loving Australians, has given the TV Week Logie Awards a fairer field of competitors in all categories.”

Many have expressed their surprise at the inclusion of The Circle’s Chrissie Swan in the nominees for the Gold Logie.

“Despite what has been intimated by certain sections of the media, voting has been restricted to one vote per person,” Holder said.

“A valid contact phone number, and full name and address details were required to be provided with the entry form for it to be deemed eligible.

“After votes were cast, Roy Morgan Research scrutinised every vote using a detailed process which ensured all invalid votes were removed.”
