The biggest singing competition in the world is returning to Channel Seven in 2011 – with auditions starting in two weeks.

Created by Simon Cowell, The X Factor is the hottest TV franchise around the globe, having enjoyed epic success in the UK. It is set to launch in the US this year.

The X Factor kicked off on Channel Seven last year. Its grand final saw over 2 million Australians tune in to see Altiyan Childs crowned series one winner.

Altiyan’s self-titled debut album peaked at number three on the ARIA charts with certified platinum sales. He recently completed sold out live shows across the country.

There is one very exciting change to the format for 2011, with the new minimum age for contestants lowered to 14 years of age.

The X Factor is open to either solo performers or groups. Once through the final audition process, the show’s four judges will take on mentoring roles, as the performers are split into categories – Boys under 25, Girls under 25, the over 25s and the Groups.

This will again culminate with a huge weekly live show, where the singers will battle it out in front of the judges and the Australian public. The ultimate winner will be rewarded with a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

Since its first UK series in 2004, The X Factor has established itself as the world’s leading singing talent search – successfully launching into over 20 territories, including Sweden, Russia, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Italy and Germany.

Auditions will begin this month in Perth and travel around the country.

SKY NEWS has consolidated its position as Australia’s News Channel with its coverage of the tragic events of the Japanese earthquake which have drawn record high viewing for international news on SKY NEWS.

Australians are turning to SKY NEWS as our nation comes to terms with the tragedy unfolding for one of our nearest neighbours.

Where viewers could choose between SKY NEWS and Australia’s Free-To-Air produced 24 hour news service, SKY NEWS won a share of viewing up to 6.5 times greater than the other channel. And those who chose SKY NEWS watched for almost twice as long as those who watched the FTA channel.

In subscription TV homes on Saturday March 12, the SKY NEWS National channel won a 5.2% share of viewing. The FTA produced news channel had a 0.8% share.

In all metropolitan TV homes – including the almost 35% of homes with both STV and FTA, plus the homes that don’t have STV – SKY NEWS on Saturday had a greater average audience than the FTA news channel during 4 separate hours. For example, from 9am-10am on Saturday, SKY NEWS had an audience of 92,000 viewers compared with 86,700 for the other channel.

In subscription TV homes over the three days Friday to Sunday, average daily viewing was 49 minutes to SKY NEWS, compared to 25 minutes to the FTA news channel. In all metro TV homes, viewers spent on average 53 minutes with SKY NEWS on Saturday, compared to 38 minutes watching the FTA 24 hour news channel.

SKY NEWS continues to provide unrivalled coverage of events in Japan including a 24-hour “Japan” channel. SKY NEWS also has unrivalled Australian rights to coverage by world-leading broadcasters CNN International, ABC America, CBS, Reuters, APTN and SKY NEWS UK.

SKY NEWS is dedicated 24/7 to the best live coverage of news from around Australia and the world, including on SKY NEWS National, SKY NEWS Business, SKY NEWS LOCAL channels, and A-PAC Australia’s public affairs channel.

The PKF Tasmanian Tigers will host the New South Wales Speedblitz Blues in the 2010/11 Sheffield Shield Final commencing this Thursday LIVE and only on FOX SPORTS.

FOX SPORTS will once again provide LIVE and EXCLUSIVE coverage of the decider, which this year features a pair of star-laden teams which have dominated throughout the 118th season of Australia’s premier domestic first class cricket competition.

The Tigers, who last won the Sheffield Shield in 2006/07, helped themselves to home ground advantage in this year’s decider with a crushing innings-defeat of the Blues in Hobart last weekend.

While the Tigers have largely succeeded on the strength of their bowling attack which features Australian Test spearhead Ben Hilfenhaus and rising left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty, the Blues have blasted their way to the final with a dynamic and experienced batting line-up featuring Test stars Simon Katich and Phil Hughes along with fast-scoring David Warner and former Test opener Phil Jaques.

The FOX SPORTS cricket commentary team of Brendon Julian, Allan Border, Damien Fleming, Greg Blewett, Mark Waugh and Michael Kasprowicz will call the action from Bellerive Oval, where Tasmania is hoping to secure just its second Sheffield Shield title and New South Wales its fourth in the past decade.

LIVE and EXCLUSIVE coverage of the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield Final begins at 10.30am AEDST this Thursday, 17 March, on FOX SPORTS 3HD & FOX SPORTS 3.

FOX SPORTS News will cross LIVE to the FOX SPORTS commentary team in Hobart to preview the clash from10am AEDT on Thursday, and will continue to provide LIVE scores and match highlights throughout the five-day contest.

Fans can also follow the match online with full scorecards, match highlights and a LIVE match blog available at Australia’s leading general sports website, www.foxsports.com.au.

FOX SPORTS coverage of domestic cricket, including the Ryobi One-day Cup, KFC Twenty20 Big Bash and the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield Final is available to FOXTEL and AUSTAR subscribers.

With The Million Dollar Drop premiering next Monday March 21, Nine have taken the opportunity to make some adjustments to programming for that week and beyond.

On Monday March21. There will be a second new episode of Two and a Half men at 8pm instead of $#*! My Dad Says. Million Dollar Drop follows at 8.30, which is in turn followed by an extra episode of Harry’s Law at 9.30.

On Tuesday March 22, and in a move as frustrating as it is ridiculous – at 7.30pm will be a NEW episode of The Big Bang Theory. A repeat remains at 8pm, and the episode on Wednesday night at 7.30pm will now be a repeat and not a new episode.

The following week, there are more changes resulting in no new episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

To sum up:

Monday March 21:
7.30 New Two and a Half Men
8.00 New Two and a Half Men
8.30 The Million Dollar Drop premiere
9.30 Harry’s Law – extra episode.

Tuesday March 22:
7.30 New The Big Bang Theory
8.00 The Big Bang Theory rpt.
8.30 Top Gear

Wednesday March 23:
7.30 The Big Bang Theory repeat
8.00 New mike & Molly

Monday March 28:
7.30 New Two and a Half Men
8.00 Two and a Half Men rpt.
8.30 The Million Dollar Drop

Tuesday March 29:
7.30 The Big Bang Theory rpt
8.00 The Big Bang Theory rpt
8.30 Top Gear

Wednesday March 30
7.30 Two and Half Men rpt
8.00 new Mike & Molly

The Million Dollar Drop will premiere on Nine ay 8.30pm, Monday March 21.

The Million Dollar Drop is a game show like no other. Two contestants work together as a team to take on one of the most difficult challenges of their lives, to keep the million dollars cash stacked up in front of them. There are eight questions and up to four answer options. If the team is confident, they can place all of their money on one answer, if not they can spread between all but one answer option. In a dramatic reveal, the team will see any money placed on the wrong answers disappear down the Money Drop. Hosted by Eddie McGuire.

In recent weeks, Nine have been ramping up promotions for the new game show which did suggest it would air sooner, rather than later.

This Is Your Life is effectively replaced by the Million Dollar Drop although it was my understanding that This is Your Life was only intended as a series of specials rather than an ongoing weekly show.

The Million Dollar Drop, Mondays at 8.30pm on Nine from March 21.

OzTam Five city Live and As Live Preliminary Ratings Figures. Five Cities are Sydney (S), Brisbane (B), Melbourne (M), Adelaide (A) and Perth (P). Figures are shown in order Total, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth. Shows not aired in certain cities denoted by 0 or n/a (not aired).  Does not take into account overruns or extreme last minute programming changes. Shares are 6pm – Midnight unless otherwise stated. Network abreviated to “nw”.

The first game of the AFL premiership season is on Thursday March 24 between Richmond and Carlton.

This year, the Thursday season opener is on Ten which will mean very different programming in each market on that night, with AFL states either falling behind or missing out on an episode of The Good Wife and Law & Order: SVU.

In Melbourne, the AFL on Thursday March 24 will be live from 7.30pm on Ten and ONE. As a result, The Biggest Loser will not be seen in Melbourne that night, instead there will be a double on Friday night – which in turn, pushes out Undercover Boss as well.

In Adelaide and Perth, the AFL airs from 8.30 on Ten and ONE, leaving the Biggest Loser in place as usual at 7.30.

In Sydney and Brisbane, the AFL does not air until 11pm on Ten, so Thursday night programming remains as normal until then. AFL fans in Sydney and Brisbane will be able to see the game on ONE from 7.30pm.

Ten also airs the Adelaide vs. Hawthorn game that plays on Saturday March 26 – this will be live on Ten and ONE in all markets except Sydney, where it is delayed on both Ten and ONE.

Neighbours actor Scott Major is planning on getting more involved in the soap by penning some future episodes.

Major, who plays Lucas Fitzgerald, has already branched out to directing several episodes and hopes to extend his skills to writing.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “I have actually put in a submission to the writing department to write an episode and I’ve also written a six-part TV series set in Camden, London which some producers over in the UK are looking at, so I definitely would like to pursue TV writing.”

Of his directing work on Neighbours, Major said: “It’s going very well – I have another episode which I directed coming up soon and I’m about to start work on a few more.”
