Foxtel has reported a rise in earnings for the first half of the 2010-11 financial year.

The pay-TV provider has announced earnings before interest and taxes for the period leading up until 31 December 2010 as $278 million.

Foxtel says total revenue was also up 9 per cent to $1,078m from $989m in the previous period.

The network’s chief executive and managing director Kim Williams says: “The strength of our proposition has never been more evident.”

“Subscribers are consuming more of our services and staying with us longer as we continue to offer more and better services such as our extensive coverage of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, our new On Demand and Foxtel on Xbox 360 services, the significant expansion of our Foxtel High Definition offering and our recently announced partnership with Telstra to offer Foxtel on T-Box.

“While the consumer environment will remain challenging over the next six months Foxtel will continue to innovate and drive value for Australian consumers with the best in range, depth and value in Australian entertainment.”

Hey Hey host Daryl Somers addressed his fans on Facebook this week, saying that the show will not return in the first half of the year and that it may be shelved for good.

Somers wrote that talks with Nine had been disrupted by the holiday season and that the news is “not good for Hey Hey It’s Saturday.”

He wrote: “There is a chance of something happening in the second half of the year but sadly nothing definitive. And if we did return it would probably not be on a Saturday as according to Nine the “economics” don’t stack up: not enough people watching TV generally on a weekend compared to mid week viewing, therefore revenue verses the cost of mounting a two hour variety show like ours does not work. They can make more profit with a cheaper program.

“This is the business of television, no sentiment or viewer loyalty comes into it I’m afraid.  I have made the point that we were never given a chance to consolidate either in our midweek slot or on Saturdays. Both seasons were interrupted by Rugby coverage and even though Nine agreed our figures were strong against the juggernaut of MasterChef and indeed extended our first season by 3 eps. , the Farmer Wants a Wife replaced us in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.

“I believe had we been left on the Weds, beyond the MasterChef season, we would have attracted a significant percentage of their audience to consolidate our position but we’ll never know the answer to that question. And besides we all enjoyed the return of the show to Saturdays.”

Somers concluded by thanking those that had stuck by the show over the years and for voting for them in the TV Week Logies Awards this year.

Dannii Minogue took to the stage in Sydney last night to launch her three-part fashion television series Dannii Minogue: Style Queen, which will premiere exclusively on FOX8, on Wednesday, February 23 at 7.30pm.

Alongside best friend and business partner Tabitha Somerset Webb at harbourside restaurant Aria, Dannii spoke of her excitement about launching her own fashion label, Project D.

“Making a series like Style Queen was a great way for me to give people a behind-the-scenes look at how we went about starting up our own fashion line,” Dannii said.

“To do something like this with my best friend was a dream come true and I couldn’t have done it without her.

“We had the cameras there from the very beginning, capturing every exciting moment. During filming I was pregnant with Ethan and shooting X Factor in the UK – it was one of the busiest and most memorable times in my life.”

The series of three one-hour episodes allows viewers access into the private world of one of Australia and the UK’s most popular stars. Cameras follow Dannii as she juggles starting her dream business as a fashion designer whilst juggling TV, music, red carpet events, modelling and writing her autobiography, as well as spending time with her boyfriend Kris Smith and her biggest and most important challenge to date – becoming a mother.

Dannii Minogue: Style Queen is an ITV Studios Production in Association with Communicate Productions. The executive producers are Jo Scarratt and Steve Vizard.

Dannii Minogue: Style Queen premieres February 23, Wednesdays at 7.30pm AEDT, exclusively on FOX8.
