Rebecca Gibney has announced that Channel Seven has given her the all-clear to begin developing a new drama for the network.

The Packed To The Rafters actress will work alongside her production designer husband Richard Bell on the project.

We’re in talks with them [Channel Seven] and we’ve got a writer on board,” Gibney said. “If and when Rafters does go away, we’ll have something in the pipeline. Even if Rafters doesn’t finish, we’ll do it after season five.”

The 46-year-old said that while she is happy to continue playing Julie Rafter, she wants to broaden her horizons behind the scenes.

“I told them I wanted to do other stuff,” she said. “We then pitched the story. I’m so thrilled.”

7TWO today announced Better Homes and Gardens host Johanna Griggs and lifestyle presenter and former ‘chippie’ Tom Williams will team-up to present Lifestyle on 7TWO, two huge nights of premier lifestyle programming every Friday and Sunday night.

From Friday February 11, Griggs and Williams will introduce audiences to the very best lifestyle programs from around the globe – featuring expert tips on travel, health and fashion makeovers, bargain hunting, buying real estate, re-decorating and advice on creating the perfect meal.

For Griggs, who has been at the helm of Seven’s highly successful Better Homes and Gardens program since 2005, joining Lifestyle on 7TWO allows her to further indulge her passion for the lifestyle genre.

“Television has never been more exciting than it is right now, with so many options for viewers. I’m rapt to be working with Tom again, helping guide viewers through the great lifestyle programs 7TWO has to offer,” says Griggs.

A professional carpenter who has travelled the world with The Great Outdoors, Williams has first hand experience with renovation and travel. He knows the value of expert DIY tips when it comes to building your dream house or planning the perfect holiday.

“We’ve got some great programmes lined-up, so it’s a fantastic way to start and finish the weekend for all the budding chefs, adventurers and decorators out there,” he says.

During February, Lifestyle on 7TWO will feature premiere episodes of popular programs BARGAIN HUNT, ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY, 60 MINUTE MAKEOVER, LIVING IN THE SUN, LIVE THE DREAM: AS SEEN ON SCREEN, ESCAPE TO THE SUN, RESTAURANT IN OUR LIVING ROOM and many more.

Lifestyle on 7TWO joins the channel’s 2011 schedule of drama, movie, comedy, reality and factual programming hits.

7TWO is the most-watched digital channel in total viewers across the current summer and its audience is up 93% on the 2009/2010 summer period. The channel dominates the most-watched programmes across the summer period (weeks 49, 2010 – week 5, 2011).

Sydney sisters Sammy & Bella are in the lead with 89 points followed by Queensland butchers Artie & Johnny on 76 points. Victorian housemates Kane & Lee are languishing at the bottom with 59 points.

On Monday night it’s South Australia’s turn. There will be thrills and spills as the married couple battle the clock and their nerves to plate up on time.

Reade’s talents are not limited to the kitchen. On Monday night’s (February 7) episode, he serenades guests with a special My Kitchen Rules ditty he’s written himself – check out the  footage by clicking on the image above.

Don’t miss MY KITCHEN RULES – on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays on Channel 7 at 7.30pm.

Well what a first week it’s been for this year’s Biggest Loser Families, but it’s all come to an abrupt end for Greg Challenor who becomes the first contestant to be voted out.

The Challenor family, brothers Greg, Joe, Damien and nephew Nathaniel, spent a week with their trainer Michelle Bridges, inviting her as a guest into their home, showing her exactly what they ate and how they spent their time. Poor Michelle, more used to 3 hour workouts and lettuce leaf lunches than huge bowls of cheesy pasta, whipped cream and frankfurters followed by a day on the sofa watching TV. Sounds bliss to me but it didn’t go down quite so well with Michelle who ended up putting on, in just one week, 5.8kg!

Once the Challenors arrived at Camp Biggest Loser – it was payback time, and Michelle wasted no time in putting the boys through a grueling first training session. Of them all, Greg suffered the most. Michelle normally expects 110%, Greg gave 30, and began to get the reputation of the red team’s weakest link.

At this week’s Weigh In, there were some impressive weight loss figures – both Damien Challenor (red team) and Jarrod Duncan (white team) losing 14.1kg. A little more disappointing was Sarah Moon’s 2.7kg – the least amount lost that week. Greg lost an impressive 7.8kg.

The Challenors and The Moons fell below the yellow line and in a new Biggest Loser twist, each of those families must choose one member to face Elimination. Those 2 must then face the decision of the other families as to who leaves the competition.

This week, it was Rebecca Moon against Greg Challenor.

With unanimous votes – Greg is the first to go.

Coogan addresses Top Gear controversy

Comedian Steven Coogan has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding comments about Mexicans on Top Gear in the UK. Coogan says of Richard Hammond and his fellow presenters:  ”The Lads have this strange notion that if they are being offensive it bestows on them a kind of anti-establishment aura of coolness; in fact, like their leather jackets and jeans, it is uber-conservative… Big viewing figures don’t give you impunity – they carry responsibility.”

The Situation to leave Jersey Shore soon

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has announced plans to leave Jersey Shore in the next two years to concentrate on his acting career.

Next Thursday, Feb 10, Nine will play TWO new CSI’s in a row, from 8.30pm.

That means that new CSI: NY, scheduled for 9.30pm, is out for the week.

Assuming no further changes, the following week Thur Feb 17 is a return back to CSI at 8.30 and CSI: NY at 9.30.

Is it any wonder CSI: NY doesn’t get the audience it should? It never seems to find a regular timeslot. Last night (Thur Feb 3), CSI: NY was second in its timeslot behind Desperate Housewives on Seven and ahead of Law & Order: SVU on Ten. Nine came second in the ratings for the night.

The Australian Government has helped 25 000 households convert to digital TV through the Household Assistance Scheme, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, announced today.

Senator Conroy was on hand for the 25 000th installation at the home of Mr Kenneth Howgate in Wendouree, Victoria.

“Regional Victoria will be switching to digital-only free-to-air television on 5 May 2011 and the government’s Household Assistance Scheme is helping ensure that all Victorians, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and their carers, are ready for the switchover,” Senator Conroy said.

“The switchover to digital TV is a historic change to the way free-to-air TV is broadcast in Australia,” Senator Conroy said. “Through this Scheme people such as Mr Howgate will be able to enjoy all of the benefits of digital TV, including greater program choice from more channels, and better sound and picture quality.”

Mr Howgate said he was pleased to be part of the switchover to digital TV.

“I am very happy to now be fully hooked up and to have made the switchover to digital television. The choice of programs and also the quality of sound and picture that comes with digital TV is wonderful and I particularly look forward to all the sport that the new digital channels will be showing,” Mr Howgate said.

Member for Ballarat and Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King MP, said the Household Assistance Program had proved to be hugely successful in ensuring that vulnerable Australians did not miss out on the benefits of digital television.

“A person is eligible for the Scheme where they do not already have access to digital TV and they are in receipt of the maximum rate of the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Service Pension, or DVA income-support supplement payment,” Ms King said.

“The Government is committed to ensuring people without other means of support are fully assisted to enable them to continue to enjoy their favourite TV shows – and access a great range of new channels – after the switch off of analog television signals,” Ms King said.

Senator Conroy said approximately 120 000 households across Regional Victoria were eligible for assistance through the Scheme, which provides eligible households with a high-definition set top box and completes a full installation and demonstration at no cost to the recipient.

Potentially eligible households in Victoria will have received a letter from Centrelink inviting them to participate in the Scheme. These people can apply for assistance by calling Centrelink on 1800 55 64 43.

The Household Assistance Scheme will continue to be available in regional Victoria until one month after the switchover date of 5 May 2011. The Scheme opens to eligible households in each switchover region six months before the switch off of the analog television signal.

Mr Howgate’s installation was performed by Mark Curwood from Techlife who is an endorsed antenna installer engaged by Hills Industries, the master contractor for the delivery of the Household Assistance Scheme in South-West Victoria.

Senator Conroy said that more than 2500 households in Mildura/Sunraysia, and more than
10 000 households in Regional South Australia and Broken Hill, have been helped in switching to digital TV through the Household Assistance Scheme since its commencement in January 2010.

Further information about the switch to digital-only television, including the timetable for analog switch off, is available at www.digitalready.gov.au or by calling 1800 20 10 13.
