Network Ten is pleased to announce that award winning journalist Sheryl Taylor is joining TEN’s Sydney news team as Health Editor.

With a media career spanning 25 years across print, radio and TV, Sheryl Taylor is an outstanding addition to TEN’s growing news team.

Sheryl has broken numerous health and medical stories, won a myriad of awards in her profession and set up, and executive produced some Australian television’s best medical programs, notably the Logie award-winning medical reality program, RPA.

Ross Dagan, TEN’s Sydney News Director said Sheryl Taylor is without doubt one of the most respected journalists in her field. “We’re delighted to welcome Sheryl to TEN’s already outstanding news team. She will bring decades of experience to covering the health issues that intimately affect all our viewers.

Sheryl Taylor said of her joining TEN’s news team, “I am thrilled to be back reporting on the medical and health matters that affect millions of Australians and it’s such an exciting time to be joining Ten’s expanded commitment to news and public affairs”.

Hailing from Perth and originally trained as a Registered Nurse, Sheryl’s work took her across the continent, before returning home to study journalism. She started her reporting career at ABC Radio, filing for the prestigious current affairs programs AM, PM and The World Today, covering breaking political events and interviewing leading business and political figures, before moving into TV.

Sheryl will be based in Sydney with a roving brief to cover significant health and medical news. She will be reporting across TEN’s news programs, with a particular focus on Sydney’s Ten News at Five and Ten Evening News at 6:30pm.

TEN is confident that ratings juggernaut MasterChef will stay theirs for many years to come.

Chief Executive of television Grant Blackley has said that talks are underway currently with production house Shine for the rights to extend beyond next year.

Blackley says that although Seven And Nine may be tempted to push the bidding up, he is confident that Ten will retain the rights.

“We are confident that . . . we will come up with an arrangement on MasterChef,” he told The Australian.

“I think we have to be careful not to concentrate on price too much. At the end of the day we have an excellent relationship with Shine. We do a lot of business with Shine. We’ve developed a relationship with Shine that is based around mutual respect and mutual success.”

Blackley was quick to point out that some shows failed once they shifted network.

“Thank God You’re Here is a classic recent example where it left Ten (for Seven) and its audience dropped by about 40 per cent,” he said.

“In a world of convergence, I think there is a lot more to do with MasterChef to make it a big part of everybody’s daily life all year round. All we’ve done, really, is make it a broadcast vehicle for a number of weeks.”

TEN’s current deal expires at the end of 2011 which coincides with the end of Shine’s license deal with FremantleMedia.

From then on, Shine will take over production.

ABC TV has named sleek geek Adam Spencer, and super sport Amanda Shalala, captains of the two celebrity teams on its new sports quiz show – The Trophy Room.

Hosted by comedian, Peter Helliar, The Trophy Room is a fun-filled, fast-paced quiz show that combines classic and current sports trivia with parlour games and physical challenges.

Adam Spencer says he‘s thrilled to be involved in a panel show where he can interact with some of his sporting heroes.

“I haven’t been this excited since that John Aloisi penalty against Uruguay which sent the Socceroos to the 2006 World Cup,” he says. “I haven’t been this energised since I watched Garry Kasparov clinch his 1990 World Chess Championship over Anatoly Karpov.”

The “ubernerd” says he looking forward to working with The Trophy Room host, Peter Helliar.

“Pete’s the perfect host for a sports quiz show – he could well be the love child of Larry Emdur and Shane Warne…or Stephen Hawking and Flo-Jo!”

Adam will not be underestimating his opposing captain – ABC sports presenter Amanda Shalala.

“She’ll be a ferocious adversary – don’t let the melodic, gently lilting surname hypnotise you into falling for her charms – she’s an encyclopaedia of sporting knowledge – with attitude to match!”

Amanda Shalala lives by the motto “Sport is life, the rest mere detail.” She’s “incredibly excited” her “unnatural obsession” with sporting trivia is actually being put to good use.

“I can’t believe I’ve found a legitimate outlet to share the many random and useless sports factoids that fill my head,” she says. “Now my friends no longer have to politely pretend they care when I tell them about the Wallabies’ historic 1984 grand slam winning team, or recount the entire history of the St George rugby league club – I can share it with Australia instead!”

A new Kelsey Grammer pilot has been picked up by American network Starz which will focus on the life of the Mayor of Chicago. Grammer is believed to have landed the lead role in the pilot which will be directed by Gus Van Sant.

THE X FACTOR grand finalist’s Sally Chatfield, Altiyan Childs and Andrew Lawson turned it up to 11 last night as they took to the stage and belted out duets with Jamiroquai, INXS and James Blunt.

Sally joined Jamiroquai on their huge dance hit, Canned Heat, Andrew swooned alongside James Blunt with Beautiful and while Altiyan lived the dream, joining INXS on Don’t Change, he was also pulled up by Kyle for forgetting the opening lyrics.  But Kyle acknowledged that ultimately it didn’t matter as Altiyan’s performance was world class.

The top three also performed their version of the winner’s single “Somewhere in the World”, Kyle believed Sally and Altiyan’s version would get commercial radio play but that song wasn’t ideal for Andrew’s vocal style.

Last night the finalists went back to their respective audition songs – Altiyan not only remembered the words to Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire, but made it his own.  Sally reminded the nation why Kyle branded her a ‘supreme vocalist’ at her audition when she returned to Christina Aguilera’s Hurt.  Andrew went back to his roots with an impressive performance of Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon.

The judges selected their favourite performance from their charges across the series – with Natalie Imbruglia voting for Sally’s version of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, Kyle had Andrew revisit Michael Buble’s Heartache Tonight and Ronan reminded Australia why they fell in love with Altiyan by having him belt out Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On a Prayer.

The voting lines are open and close 12.00pm AEDT Monday www.xfactortv.com.au for more information.

All three acts have proven that they have the X Factor – but who will take home the winner’s title and score a recording contract with Sony Music tonight?

Will it be powerful diva Sally, rockstar Altiyan or the swinging crooner Andrew?

Tonight THE X FACTOR judge Guy Sebastian will take to the stage to perform his brand new single, Who’s That Girl, with controversial American rapper Eve.

THE X FACTOR top 12 will also return for a special group performance as will Jamiroquai and James Blunt performing their new songs White Knuckle Ride and Stay the Night and INXS will be joined by Baby Animals front woman Suze DeMarchi.  Hollywood superstar Jack Black will also pop by.
