AAMI Victoria Derby Day lifts the curtain on the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Considered by most racing purists to be the best single day of thoroughbred racing in Australia - if not the world - the day provides a sizzling start to the racing week as the only all-Group race day on the Australian calendar.

The showcase event of the 10-race program is Victorian racing’s premier three-year-old classic, with a history that dates back to 1855. The roll call of winners includes many of the sport’s greatest names, including Mahogany, Red Anchor, Dulcify, Taj Rossi, Tobin Bronze, Tulloch, Phar Lap, Elvstroem, Nothin’ Leica Dane and Grosvenor.

Seven’s Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage will focus on telling the stories of the horses, the jockeys and the characters that create the rich tapestry of racing. We’ll be on the track and in the mounting yards. We’ll cover the betting ring and the stewards’ rooms. And we’ll also be focusing our attention on what happens off the track, with coverage of the celebrity, glamour and fashions that define the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The telecast will be hosted by BRUCE MCAVANEY, RICHARD FREEDMAN and SIMON MARSHALL. We’ll also have PETER DONEGAN in the mounting yard, PAT WELSH in the betting ring, Melbourne Cup winning jockey JOHN LETTS in the saddle interviewing the winning hoops on course and GREG MILES as race caller.

Our presenters will be JOHANNA GRIGGS, MATTHEW WHITE, SONIA KRUGER, SARA GROEN, MONIQUE WRIGHT, CHARLI DELANEY, NEIL KEARNEY, MICHAEL FELGATE, RICK OLARENSHAW and HAMISH MCLACHLAN.

Master of ceremonies is SANDY ROBERTS and GEOFF ‘COXY’ COX will be reporting from the car park.
