David Koch to host Battle of the Choirs

Thought you knew what to expect from a choir? Think again.
Doing for choral singers what Dancing with the Stars did for ballroom dancers, Seven's brand new singing competition, Battle Of The Choirs, will flip the script on one of the nation's favourite pastimes.
Battle Of The Choirs will showcase 16 choral groups from around Australia. Gospel, barbershop, classical, pop, a cappella, jazz, soul – all genres are represented, but it's personality, passion, power and performance that they'll need to make it past the judges when they're challenged to perform songs from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Meatloaf, Rhianna, Kiss, AC/DC, Scissor Sisters, Stevie Wonder and more.
David Koch will present the search for Australia's top choir. The winning choir will be awarded $100,000.
Seven's Director of Programming and Production Tim Worner said:
"Battle of the Choirs will be a show the whole family will engage in. The pure passion captured in multi-voice song is uplifting and inspiring.
"This is an enormous project for us – the logistics are massive.
"With a huge music fan like David hosting the show, the audience is in for a treat."
Battle Of The Choirs is produced by Granada Productions, makers of Dancing With The Stars, for Channel Seven.

THE ALL AUSTRALIA GOSPEL CHOIR CHALLENGE 2008

When: 3rd & 4th October 2008
1. Choir Challenge:
Malosi Entertainment in association with Pacifica Unite is inviting all Gospel choirs from all Church Denominations, Choir Clubs and Schools to join us in the Inaugural “All Australia Gospel Choir Challenge 2008”.
2. Goals or Objectives:
The objectives of the competition are:
- to display the time honoured tradition of gospel music within our houses of worship
- to showcase the vibrant talent of gospel singers and musicians
- to further heighten the depth of gospel music in Australia
- to provide a platform, endorsing music as a stepping stone among the Australian Youth
3. Prize / Reward:
A very attractive Prize Reward is offered:
1st: $20,000
LP recording (3 songs)
Toyota Hiace 14 Seater Bus
2nd: $10,000
Roland Electric Piano
3rd: $5,000
KORG Triton Keyboard
4th: $3,000
Music Voucher ($1,500 value)
5th: $2,000
Music Voucher ($1,000 value)
These are projected and/or proposed prizes through sponsorships. Please note that prizes are not yet finalized and monetary prizes could still be subjected to increasing. This would mean cash prizes could still increase whilst sponsors are still being finalised.
