ROBIN HOOD: BOOBY AND THE BEAST

Sunday, 10 February 2008

The rollicking, family friendly Robin Hood continues on its merry way in the second episode of the new series tonight on ABC TV.

The fabulous adaptation of an old classic has been a rip-roaring success, striking a chord with family audiences.

Shot in eye-catching locations near Budapest in Hungary, the drama centres on the charismatic Robin Hood (Jonas Armstrong), who leads his gang of outlaws in Sherwood Forest. Robin, along with his merry band, attempts to outwit the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Keith Allen) and his sadistic lieutenant, Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage).

Aiding Robin's quest is his feisty love interest Marian (Lucy Griffins), and his loyal troupe of outlaws, Much (Sam Troughton), Little John (Gordon Kennedy), Allan A Dale (Joe Armstrong), Will Scarlett (Harry Lloyd) and Djaq (Anjali Jay).

In tonight's compelling episode Robin learns that the Sheriff is keeping funds in a strong room at the castle for his plot to overthrow King Richard. But the Sheriff foresees the outlaw's attempt to break in and sets a series of traps to prevent Robin stealing the money.

Meanwhile, a Bavarian Count (Hotel Babylon's Dexter Fletcher) arrives to gamble at the medieval casino, unaware of the Sheriff's plan to cheat him.

The stakes are upped considerably as the Sheriff is involved in what in modern parlance would be termed 'regime change'. So when Robin clashes with the Sheriff it's as much about the very soul of England as taking from the rich to give to the poor.

Also upping the ante is Robin's relationship with Marian. They have declared their love for one another, but she puts herself in genuine danger by spying on the Sheriff at the castle for Robin.
