The death of two puppies spawns some detective work. A cat plays hide and seek with inspectors and an elderly man is literally killing his dog with kindness.
In Townsville, inspector Cliff Singer investigates the mysterious death of two puppies at a suburban house. A third pup is seriously ill with a bloated stomach. Further investigation reveals the primary suspect: a cane toad swimming in the pups’ water bucket. Cliff seizes the living pup and takes it to the vet. Will an autopsy on the deceased pups confirm their theories? And will the third pup survive the mysterious illness?
In Melbourne, a cat with a dog food can stuck on its head plays hide and seek with the RSPCA under a suburban house. Inspector Graham Hambridge struggles to catch the stressed cat as it hides in the narrow spaces beneath the house. Even the cameraman is enlisted to help as the cat moves beyond reach.
Still in Melbourne, inspector Maree Crabtree helps educate an elderly man who is slowly killing his 16-year-old dog with love. Blacky has grown obese on a rich diet of German sausage and rice pudding. Although he can barely move, Blacky is also forced to go on “therapeutic” one-hour walks by his owner. The vet examines Blacky and discovers that he’s sprained a leg due to his enormous weight. Blacky is put on a strict diet and his exercise regime is curtailed. After three months, Maree returns to see if Blacky – and his owner- have transformed.
