Episode 1

I'm sure that in the 1920's, none of the legends that made up the South Sydney Rabbitohs would have thought their team would have been turfed out of the NRL for two years and then after making their way back into the competition, end up being turned from a public club into a privately owned one.

What an incredibly moving story South Side Story is going to be. The first episode of this ABC series really showed the passion and drive of the fans that have supported the greatest rugby league club in the history of Australian Rugby League.

Needing 75% of the vote, members of the club voted 75.8% in favour of making the club privately owned and the South Sydney Rabbits were sold to millionaire businessman Peter Holmes a Court and Hollywood actor Russell Crowe for $3m.

Any fan of Rugby League will thoroughly enjoy this series which follows the story of a club that had incredible success but hasn't won a premiership since 1971 and has now been in the bottom 3 for the last 5 seasons including 3 of which saw them with the wooden spoon.

The behind the scenes look at the club under new management is sure to be fascinating as big business finally meets the working class of the southern suburbs.
