AAMI Classic

Wednesday January 9

11:00am

2008 sees the 20th Anniversary of the AAMI Classic, a fan friendly “round robin” type event at Kooyong in Melbourne featuring eight of the world’s best tennis players.

Each of the eight participants plays three matches over the four days in a promotion/relegation type format.

It’s traditionally a hard-fought competition especially due to the high calibre of players. Andre Agassi was a firm supporter, competing eight times and winning on three occasions, taking the Australian Open title after each victory.

The 2007 final saw Andy Roddick defeat Roger Federer in front of a sold out crowd.

Among those who have committed to the 2008 event are defending champ and World No. 6 Roddick, World No.1 Roger Federer, World No. 7 Fernando Gonzalez, World No. 9 David Nalbandian, World No. 12 Tommy Haas, World No.17 Ivan Ljubicic, World No. 11 Andy Murray and World No. 48 Marat Safin.

Hosted by BRUCE MCAVANEY with commentary from JOHN FITZGERALD and CHRIS DITTMAR.
