Game two of the 2008 State of Origin series will be broadcast exclusively live on the Nine Network next week as New South Wales and Queensland continue to battle for rugby league supremacy.
The XXXX Queensland Maroons are desperate to win the second game to stay in the running, just as the Wizard Blues want to wrap up the series 2-0 ahead of game three. Nine’s Wide World of Sports will telecast game two live from 7.30pm Wednesday, June 11 at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. The final game of the series will be played in Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday, July 2.
Ken Sutcliffe will host Nine’s State of Origin broadcast, with Ray Warren calling the play. Joining Warren in commentary will be State of Origin legends Peter Sterling and Paul Vautin, along with former Blues coach Phil Gould.
State of Origin heroes Wally Lewis, Laurie Daley, Matthew Johns and Ben Ikin will be on hand for Nine’s pre-game, half-time and post-match coverage to analyse all the big plays. Together, Gould, Lewis and Vautin notched up 39 games as Origin coaches while Lewis, Sterling, Vautin, Andrew Johns, his brother Matthew, Daley and Ben Ikin played a total of 133 games in Origin.
The commentary team will have access to Maroons coach Mal Meninga as well as Blues coach Craig Bellamy. Nine’s Andrew Johns (Blues assistant coach) and Ben Ikin will report live from the NSW and Queensland dressing rooms before kick off and also convey all the intensity and drama from the benches during the game. As well, Ikin, Matthew Johns and Andrew Voss will speak to the players after the fulltime whistle sounds.
As always, viewers can expect a huge battle between New South Wales and Queensland. With 27 cameras and more than 120 Wide World of Sports staff at the ground, Nine’s coverage will guarantee viewers the best seat in the house for the best representative contest in rugby league: the supreme test, mate against mate, State against State.
