7 Programming

Seven have finally revealed their complete summer programming line up. New shows continuing during summer at least for the first few weeks include the Amazing Race (although on a different night), Border Patrol, The Force, Destroyed in Seconds and Private Practice.

Repeats of Bones, Castle, City Homicide and Better Homes and Gardens will allow fans to catch up or see these shows again. Garry Unmarried is back, as is 30 Rock in repeats and new to Seven is Parks and Recreation airing Tuesday nights.

Sunday night’s time slot is occupied by a Today Tonight special although many viewers would have already thought that Sunday Night was simply a weekly version of Today Tonight in any case.

Movies occupy timeslots Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Deal or no Deal is in repeats, MASH is replaced by Come Dine with Me while 7pm will see How I Met Your Mother back in a weeknight timelsot like last summer.

Although Seven are yet to reveal their complete summer line up for the week starting November 29, here is some idea of what will be on and when on Seven. The release of Nine’s schedule though should prompt Seven to release the complete schedule.

7pm weekdays on Seven will see How I Met Your Mother repeats air. Monday at 7.30 is Garry Unmarried while the final Flashforward for the year will be seen at 8.30pm. That is followed by a movie: Signs.

Tuesday nights from 10.30 sees regular programming include repeats of 30 Rock, followed by Parks and Recreation which is part of NBC USA’s Thursday night comedy line up followed by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia at 11.30.

Late Wednesday night at 9.30 is Most Shocking, followed by Band of Brothers at 10.30 then the First 48 at 11.30pm. Louis Theroux is at 11.30 Thursday and Better Homes and Gardens repeats will continue on Fridays at 7.30pm.

New to Saturday nights at 6.30pm will be a travel and lifestyle series hosted by Ernie Dingo called No Leave, No Life. The series sees well known comedians fill in for hard working Australians who are whisked away for a well-earned week away from work with friends and family.

Other than all that, for most nights, 7.30 and 8.30pm timeslots are yet to be announced. Given that Ten are already airing ads for key programs in their summer line up, and that Nine have released their schedule, Seven should hopefully detail what they will show at crucial time slots.

Seven and 7TWO have joined in with Nine and GO in rearranging their schedule for the next two weeks in an attempt to boost ratings shares as we head into the last two weeks of official ratings for 2009.

Changes to Seven’s programming are:

Wed Nov 18 – Family Guy replaces American Dad at 11pm.

Thur Nov 19 – Family Guy again replaces American Dad with three episodes in a row from 10.30pm

Sun Nov 22 – Castle at 9.30pm will be a double episode. Real Crime scheduled for 10.30pm is out.

Tue Nov 24 – Private Practice at 9.30pm will be a double episode as well. On 7TWO, the Unit is off for a week with a double Reaper on from 8.30. The movie Alien Vs Predator follows at 10.10pm on 7TWO

Wed Nov 25 – Criminal Minds at 9.30pm will be a new, not repeated episode. After the last My Name is Earl at 10.30, a double Family Guy will air.

Thur Nov 26 – Amazing race fans get a double with the show being on from 9.30 – 11.30. That is followed by Family Guy (again – a lot of Family Guy episodes over 8 days). On 7TWO, Stargate Atlantis plays out over 3 episodes instead of two, while Shark is off for a week.

Fri Nov 27 – Friday night movie at 8.30 is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. It is followed by – wait for it – Family Guy again! At about 11.50pm.

Sat Nov 28 – Saturday family movie is Ratatouille with Santa Clause 3 following at 9.15pm.

Channel 7′s new Thursday night line up has been revealed.

On October 1, they effectively take a week off with the Narnia Chronicles airing, but on October 8, its a completely new line up for channel 7.

At 7.30, Ghost Whisperer returns for season 5, days after it airs in the US.

At 8.30, the premiere of Beauty and the Geek Australia is on.

Then at 9.30, Amazing Race season 15 debuts. Amazing Race is also fast tracked.

The final of Worlds’ Strictest Parents on Wednesday Sept 30. So from Wedneday Oct 7 at 7.30, a second weekly episode of Border Security will be seen. That is followed by another factual series Medical Emergency. That means that from 7.30 to 8.30 Sunday to Thursday on channel 7 is all factuals. And why not? They rate so well for Seven.

Border Security is also on Monday Sept 28 at 7.30, followed by Highway Patrol.

From Monday Oct 5, the regular Monday night will be 7.30 Highway Patrol then Destroyed in Seconds.

[Updated] Here’s how channel 7 is looking for the biggest week in TV since the first week of the ratings year in February.

1. Monday Sept 28, 8.30pm. After months of advertising and sneak peaks, Flash Forward is finally here. The show centres around the premise of every body in the human race losing 2 minutes and 17 seconds out of their life. Each person sees a glimpse of their lives six months from now. When they wake up, everyone is left wondering if what they saw will actually happen.

2. Monday Sept 28, 9.30pm. Mercy is on. Mercy is a new medical drama centred around 3 nurses who navigate the daily traumas and personal dramas inside the hospital and out.

3. Still on Mondays, Boston Legal will no longer be shown from Sept 28. At 10.30, a 6 part NBC reality series called Momma’s Boys will air. Following that at 11.30 will be Style by Jury.

4. Tuesday Sept 29 – late. At 10.30, following All Saints is My Shocking Story, followed by a repeat of Scrubs at 11.30.

5. Wednesdays. City Homicide’s new home is Wednesday night at 8.30. That is followed by Criminal Minds at 9.30 which is being promoted as a “sexy new timeslot”. At 10.30 programs are Family Guy, followed by American Dad at 11 then Louis Theroux at 11.30.

6. 7.30pm Factuals. Here is the summary:

Sundays: Border Security then The Force: Behind the Line
Mondays: from Oct 5: Highway Patrol then Destroyed in Seconds
Tuesdays: RSPCA Animal Rescue then Last Chance Surgery.
Wednesdays: from Oct 7: Border Security then Medical Emergency

7. 7HD [updated]. Although you won’t see them in all TV guides, 7HD is currently playing movies at varying times most likely in an attempt to bring in some extra ratings for the network just like what GO is currently doing for 9. Check EPGs and internet guides for movies regularly as they seem to change a number of times before airing!!! To avoid embarrassment, I’m not listing them anymore. I note last night (Friday Sept 25) they actaully advertised a 7HD movie during Deal or No Deal yet the movie was not listed in any of the advanced guides I use to compile posts like these.

When 7HD began on Oct 15 2007, one of the channels’ original objectives was to show movies at least 3 times a week. Is this a hint of what is to come? A movie based new channel? Maybe, maybe not.  No announcement right now, but if the new channel is to start on Oct 4, today should be the day to release the details to the media. Or 7 might opt to advertise on their own network first. Stay tuned.

8. Thursdays. October 1: Movie – The Narnia Chronicles. No Gary Unmarried at 7.30 anymore.

And from Thursday Oct 8, the line up is:

7.30 Ghost Whisperer fast tracked season 5.

8.30 Beuaty and the Geek Australia

9.30 Amazing Race season 15 fast tracked.

Some information here from Tv Tonight and Media Spy. Programming subject to late change.

Here’s some quick programming updates from the various networks.

Channel 9

1. ER – will finally return to our screens at 10.30pm on Thursday October 8. The medical drama takes off from episode two of season 14, with episode 1 having already aired way back in January this year. ER just has season 14 and 15 left before it finishes forever. In the US, the finale of ER was seen back in April this year. Also earlier this year, 111 Hits on pay TV played seasons 9 – 13.

2. Secret Millionaire. A show about rich people giving to the poor and based on a UK format will air on Thursdays at 9.30pm from October 8. The series is narrated by Russel Crowe.

3. Channel 9’s movie for Tuesday Oct 6 is Transformers. It starts at 8.30pm and is a first run movie for free to air TV. That week is school holidays in pretty well all states.

Channel 10

1. The new CBS series “Three Rivers” which is a medical drama will be fast tracked to channel 10 and will air on Wednesday nights at 9.30 after NCIS: LA. The first episode can be seen on October 14.

Channel 7

1. Amazing Race Season 15 – will start on channel 7 on Thursday October 8. Timeslot yet to be confirmed but is likely to be 8.30pm.

2. Beauty and the Geek Australia – will also start on Thursday October 8. Timeslot to be confirmed.

3. Destroyed in Seconds – will air on Mondays 8pm from October 5. That means that Highway Patrol will be on Mondays at 7.30pm from Oct 5. On Monday Sept 28, 7.30 sees an extra episode of Border Security followed by Highway Patrol.

4. Worlds’ Strictest Parents – on Wed Sept 30, a “see where they are now” episode airs that shows us what has become of some of the teens featured in the show. That is the finale of the series. No word yet as to what will be on channel 7 Wed 7.30 from Oct 7.

Sources: Media Spy and TV Tonight.

Now that Dancing with the Stars has concluded on channel 7, there is a new line up on Sunday nights:

6:30 Sunday Night returns, after nearly 3 months of hiatus.
7:30 Border Security is back
8:00 The Force returns
8:30 Sept 13: Movie: The Bourne Ultimatum.

And a change to Tuesday nights 7.30 hour from Sept 15:

7:30 RSPCA Animal Rescue
8:00 Last Chance Surgery

Want more City Homicide?

There will be additional episodes on Wednesday night September 16 and September 23 at 8.30pm. These are in addition to the Monday night episodes which remain unchanged except for:

The Brownlow Medal 2009 – which will be seen from 7.30pm on Monday September 21 in the AFL states. A yet to be named movie will show in the NRL states. Northern AFL fans can see the Brownlow medal at 11.45pm that night.

And as already mentioned in earlier posts, The Amzaing Race will air double episodes on Sept 17 and 24. Expect a new Thursday night line up from Oct 1. Wonder if they will fast track the new series of the Amazing Race? Possible night for Beauty and the Geek Australia as well.

The last TV Burp will air Thursday Sept 10. Double Take moves to 10.30 Thursdays on the 17th and 24th.

And we are all waiting for the air date of Flash Forward, presumably the show will be fast tracked and possibly air in the last week of September. It premieres in the US on Thursday September 24. An Australian air date of Sunday Sept 27 may be possible. Another option might be Wednesday nights, but Sunday would be more likely to minimise the number of days delay.
