AFL

It appears that ONE have taken a leaf out of Seven/7mate’s book with the AFL this Saturday September 17, between West Coast and Carlton airing live on ONE in Sydney. Other markets will see the match live on Ten, while in Sydney it airs later in the night on the main channel.

The move is no doubt in response to the Sydney Swans being in the finals this year, and the likelihood of Sydney fans wanting to see how the other games pan out.

Seven have frequently used 7mate to air AFL games, and so far, have done so in Sydney and Brisbane for Friday night finals games. Although this Firday night (September 16), the Sydney vs Hawthorn game will also air live into Sydney, with only Brisbane having it live on 7mate.

And before anyone asks, the AFL on ONE in Sydney, like is the case when 7mate airs games, is NOT in HD.

Now what did Ten/ONE do with all their HD gear that they used to use for HD broadcasts of AFL?

This leads me to the next post…

On Monday September 19, from 7.30pm until 9.30pm, is the first X Factor live performance show for this season. Over this two hour event, the top 12 perform for the votes of the judges and audience.

Then, on Tuesday night, September 20 at 7.30pm is the X Factor results show, where one will be eliminated in the first week to bring us to our top 11.

Wednesday night at 7.30 is (as predicted) World’s Strictest Parents, while Thursday night at 7.30 will be the return of Four Weddings. Friday night AFL commitments may push this back to an 8pm start in some states if they air double Home and Away in leiu of the Friday night episode not being able to air.

Or, like last year, Home and Away could become out of synch between markets, resulting in a triple episode catch up after footy seaosn concludes. All depends on the teams that make it through.

As already reported, Beauty and the Geek Australia season three premieres at 8.30pm Thursday Sept 22.

Speaking of AFL, The Brownlow Medal airs live in VIC & SA on Monday Sept 26, as well as prime time in WA. NSW & QLD can see it on 7mate.

The Brownlow medal will push the X Factor top 11 live performances back to Tuesday night (Sept 27), with the results show on Wednesday night (Sept 28). These states will also miss out on Body of Proof and Suits, which will end up as split market programming in later weeks, as both are scheduled to air on Brownlow night in NSW & QLD.

With X Factor airing on Tuesday night, top 11 means a two hour show – which means no Packed to the Rafters for Tuesday Sept 27. Dinner Date remains at 9.30pm that night, Hung at 10.30.

Thursday 7.30 for Sept 29 could be that Home & Away catch up I meantioned before or Four Weddings – that will be comfirmed later.

Beauty and the Geek episode two will air Thursday Sept 29, 8.30pm.

Clinging to eighth position on the ladder the Swans will be looking for a high-percentage win over the lower ranked Lions when they play host at the SCG in the final round of the home-and-away season.  The four points could prove the most important of the year as they vie for a finals berth.

The Brownlow Medal screens LIVE on Seven Melbourne on Monday September 26 at 8.15pm, with Bruce McAvaney hosting the prestigious count to find the winner of the AFL’s most coveted individual honour, the Charles Brownlow Medal.

The Brownlow Medal broadcast will feature:

Prior to the official count, Seven will also present an expanded, fashion-focused Brownlow Blue Carpet Special at 7.30pm, hosted by Hamish McLachlan.

Sydney’s second last match of the season may provide their biggest test yet when they travel to Skilled Stadium to take on the Cats who have won their last two matches by an average of 168 points.  In one of the closest top eight races in recent memory with the Swans and Bombers tied on 38 points and the Dockers hot on their heels in ninth position, the Swans will be out to post a major upset when they head south.

Channel 7 will show the Round 24 Friday night top-of-the-ladder clash Collingwood versus Geelong live into Melbourne from 7.30pm.
