Australian Idol

Stan Walker – Australian Idol finalist 2009
Black Box – Lyrics

Sending out a mayday
we’re going down
the thing we could have done
would have turned it round
everything we had scattered everywhere
searching through the wreckage of a love affair

Got something to say?
say it to me
not everyone else
you say that I’m to blame
my words are in vain
don’t go fooling yourself

There’s a little black box here
somewhere in the ocean
holding all the truth about us
There’s a little black box
a record of emotion
everything that ever was

you may deny it
but when I find it
I’m gonna play it aloud to the world
There’s a little black box
There’s a little black box

living under pressure when you get deep
you left me on my own at six hundred feet
I was looking round for a little help
but everyone was looking out for themselves

Got something to say?
say it to me
not everyone else
you say that I’m to blame
my words are in vain
don’t go fooling yourself

There’s a little black box here
somewhere in the ocean
holding all the truth about us
There’s a little black box
a record of emotion
everything that ever was

you may deny it
but when I find it
I’m gonna play it aloud to the world
There’s a little black box
There’s a little black box

You can’t stop a true survivor
you’ll discover that on your own
cause I’m a true survivor
and I’ll be there after you’re gone
long after you’re gone

nb. please let me know if I’ve got anything wrong

7.30pm Sunday November 15

Tonight the final two Idols are announced at the start of the show. While it’s the end of the dream for one, it’s a dream come true for the two finalists as they celebrate the news that they have made it to the final – and the Opera House next week!

But they must put their excitement aside and gather their composure as they perform four times each! Its contestants song choice tonight so expect some show stoppers! The final two will also perform their own version of the winners single.

World class crooner Michael Buble joins the idols as mentor and guest judge this week. Will they impress him?

Its the second last week of Australian Idol.

The remaing three are Hayley, James and Stan.

The first contestant who is in the running to be Australian Idol 2009 is…

Stan Walker.

James and Hayley are left hugging…

The second through is…

Hayley Warner.

That leaves James Johnston to go home and Hayley and Stan to battle it out tonight.

Also tonight, they will perform what will become their first singles should they win the competition.

Next week sees the Australian Idol 2009 announced at the Opera House in Sydney in front of thousands of fans.

The result follows our poll exactly with Stan in front, Hayley second and James third. Stan has won the polls just about every week, and after having about 60% of the vote in Throngs’ poll would be the favourite to win.

Voting lines are now open. You can SMS their name to 191010 or call

1902 555561 for Stan,

1902 555562 for Hayley.

Voting is open until 8.45pm AEDT Nov 22

Michael Buble was the mentor for the week and will also perform at next weeks’ grand final. All  past top 12 Idol contestants will perform at the Grand Final as well.

In just two weeks – on November 22 – the 2009 Australian Idol will be decided.

This week sees the top 3 perform 3 times in power ballad night with under the watchful eye and mentoring of Emo here Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. How they perform will determine who is Idol’s second runner up for 2009.

But first, one of the four must go home based on the popular vote after naughties night last Sunday.

James and Stan were declared safe, leaving Nathan and Hayley as the bottom two.

Hayley was then declared safe leaving Nathan as the one with the least votes and to be sent home. The judges seemed surprised. A person in the audience seemed to have passed out.

So there you have it. The top 3 is:

James, Stan and Hayley.

You can vote for the Idol of your choice by SMS’ing their name to 191010 or calling

1902 555561 for James

1902 555562 for Hayley

1902 555563 for Stan

Good luck to the top three!

Lines open until Midnight (AEST) Friday night.

Our Poll.

According to our Throng poll (320 votes as at 7.30pm Sydney time), it looks like a two horse race now with Stan and Hayley taking the majority of the votes to win Australian Idol 2009.

Stan is in front on 42%, while Hayley is at 36%. James has the lowest number of votes with just 9% of voters in our Throng poll choosing him to win Idol for 2009 while Nathan was at 13%.

Not quite the same result but pretty close!

Next Sunday, November 15, the Australian Idol two finalists will be decided as one of the remaining three this week are voted off.

Then on Sunday November 22, Australian Idol 2009 will be decided.

Vote now for who you want to win!

Sunday November 8 7.30pm

Where would rock music be without the power ballad? Or pop music without the Power Anthem?

Tonight the remaining three idols grab the guyliner and take to the stage to honour some of music’s biggest songs.

These are the tunes that let the hard rockers get away with sentimentality and the pop stars hit the high notes, so the idols have to dig deep to find their inner Emo! So expect some classic Guns n’ Roses, Led Zeppelin and Phil Collins to bring the house down!

Emo hero Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy joins resident judge’s Marcia, Dicko and Jay Dee to cast his expert eye over the contestants tonight, so the pressure is on! The final three need to deliver a killer performance tonight if they are to make it to the final two show next week! Who will it be?

Australian Idol airs Sundays at 7:30pm on TEN

Sunday November 1 7.30pm

Tonight, it’s goodbye to another hopeful and hello to our Top 4! Although it’s a tough break for the eliminated contestant to get so far in the competition, whoever it may be should take comfort in Jess Mauboy, Shannan Noll, Lisa Mitchell and Ricki-Lee Coulter, all of whom prove that you don’t have to win Australian Idol to be a winner.

You do however need to win in order to get the recording contract, the management deal and the $200,000 Artist Management Fund – so there’s still a great deal at stake.

Australian Idol opened for the night with Toby Moulton saying he had to make an important announcement.

Toby announced that he was dropping out of Australian Idol after much consideration and soul searching during the past week. He said he had chosen not to follow singing as a career. He apologised for all who had put their faith and money into him but said he had to do what was right for himself. He wished the remaining four contestants all the best and asked if it would be OK with them to sing with them at the grand final which airs November 22.

“I am a teacher who can sing”.

Andrew G then went on to reveal that Toby would have in fact been part of the bottom three. Hayley and Stan were safe leaving Nathan and James as the other two in the top three.

James was voted for the least and would have departed Idol had it not been for Toby withdrawing from the competition.

Therefore, the top 4 is:

Stan Walker
Nathan Brake
Hayley Warner
James Johnston

Top 4 went on to perform songs of the naughties – that is  – songs of this decade from 2000 – 2009 with guest judges for the week Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte.

Throng poll results:

Again we asked this week who you thought should leave Australian Idol this week.

Complete poll results were (total votes 144):

1 Toby Moulton – 46 votes
2 James Johnston – 33 votes
3 Hayley Warner – 24 votes
4 Stan Walker – 22 votes
5 Nathan Brake – 19 votes

According to our poll, it was Toby to go with James second most likely. Nathan received the second least number of votes to go.

This week we’ll go back to asking who will win Idol, now that there are only 4 left.

If you cannot see the poll on the screen, click here.

AND – you can vote for real for Australian Idol all week now – with voting lines now closing at Midnight (EDST) Friday night. Vote for the performance you liked the most.

Sunday October 25 7.30pm

Tonight, 6 become the Top 5 – the creme de la creme of Australian undiscovered talent continues to rise to the top. The recording contract, the $200,000 artist management fund, the management deal, the adulation of the nation – it’s all becoming quite real to the remaining Idols as the competition reaches boiling point!

But now is not the time to get distracted with all that, it’s time for deep breaths, time to take on board all the comments the judges have made to them over the last 7 weeks, time to focus and wait for Andrew Günsberg to call their name…

Over to you Andrew…..
