The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will be beamed live and exclusive from The MGM Grand in Las Vegas to Australia via FOX8 on Monday May 21st at 10.00 am AEST when both legendary music performers Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder will be awarded for their outstanding contributions to the musical world.

Whitney Houston will be honored with the Billboard Millennium Award in a tribute performed by Jordin Sparks who plays Houston’s daughter in the upcoming remake of the film “Sparkle,” whilst Stevie Wonder will receive the Billboard Icon Award.

Whitney Houston holds the distinction of being the first artist ever to have seven consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 .Her biggest hit, “I Will Always Love You,” spent 14 weeks atop the charts in 1993 and earnt 16 Billboard Music Awards throughout her career. The winners of the Australian Directors’ Guild Awards for 2012 were announced tonight at a gala ceremony in Sydney, which also celebrated the ADG’s 30th anniversary.

Each ADG Award category is judged by a panel of Director peers.

Matthew Saville won two Awards tonight – Best Direction in a TV Drama Series was for The Slap (Ep 3 – Harry) and Best Direction in a TV Mini Series for Cloudstreet.

Julia Leigh has won the Award for Best Direction in a Feature Film for Sleeping Beauty. Two winners were announced in the Best Direction in a Documentary Feature category – Tony Krawitz for The Tall Man and Bob Connolly and Sophie Raymond for Mrs Carey’s Concert. Continue reading »

The Chaser’s Craig Reucassel and Chris Taylor have been confirmed as hosts of the Australian Directors Guild Awards, to be held on Friday May 11 at Australian Maritime Museum in Sydney.

The gala Awards ceremony will this year celebrate the ADG’s 30th anniversary. Craig Reucassel and Chris Taylor have been both writers and presenters of such TV series as The Election Chaser (2001), CNNNN (2002, 2003), The Chaser Decides (2004), The Chaser’s War on Everything (2006-2008), Yes We Canberra! (2010) and The Hamster Wheel (2011). 

“The Awards are a great opportunity to mark the ADG’s 30th anniversary and to celebrate the achievements of our directors over the past three decades. The night will be lots of fun too – Craig and Chris will make sure of that!” says ADG General Manager Kingston Anderson. 

Nominations in the ADG Awards will be announced April 16. 

As well as winners in the 18 Award categories, the ADG Awards will also announce the winner of the ADG and Directors Guild of America Finders series.

One Australian feature film, which is yet to secure US distribution and is an entry in the 2012 ADG Awards, will be selected to screen in Los Angeles to key industry figure, including distributors.

Lynch confirmed to host Emmys

Jane Lynch has been confirmed as the host of the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards this year. The Glee actress will host the ceremony scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on September 18.

Fear Factor to be revived

NBC has announced plans to revive reality series Fear Factor after it came to a close in 2006. NBC’s head of alternative programming Pail Telegdy said: “The stunt and camera technologies have evolved since then; we’re going to be able to make it even bigger. We’re going to make it more visually arresting.”

Rossdale to guest on Burn Notice

Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale has been confirmed to appear in an upcoming episode of Burn Notice. Rossdale has acted previously in the likes of Constantine and Criminal Minds.

Coogan in talks for Alan Partridge series

Steve Coogan is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Alan Partridge in a new BBC series. The BBC has confirmed that they are interested in the project but that it is at a “very early stage”.

Handler may not renew contract

E! presenter Chelsea Handler has said that she may not renew her contract for Chelsea Lately when it expires in 2012. Handler says she wants to do something that will “utilize my brain a little more than this show”.

 

FOXTEL today announced that it will broadcast Broadway’s ultimate night of nights – the 65th Annual Tony Awards – LIVE from the Beacon Theatre in New York on Monday, June 13 at 10am AEST – exclusive to bio.

Returning to host the glamorous Awards night will be popular Emmy Award winner, Neil Patrick Harris, from 111 HITS’ How I Met Your Mother. 

Harris will be joined by a host of stage and screen stars including Daniel Radcliffe, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Alec Baldwin, Samuel L. Jackson, Kelsey Grammer, Viola Davis, Vanessa Redgrave, James Earl Jones, Harry Connick Jr., Christie Brinkley, David Hyde Pierce, Marg Helgenberger, Matthew Broderick, Angela Lansbury, Jim Parsons, Joel Grey, Patrick Wilson, and Robert Morse.

This year three Australians have been nominated for the prestigious accolade – all for their work on the elaborate New York stage version of Priscilla.  The Australian nominees are costume designers Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and actor Tony Sheldon, nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the TONY Awards, which were first held on April 6, 1947, at the Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Ballroom. The ceremonies are presented by Tony Award Productions, which is a joint venture of The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, which founded the Tonys in 1947.

The Tonys were founded in memorial to Antoinette (“Tony”) Perry, the American Theatre Wing’s World War II chairperson. The winners are selected by the governing board of Actors Equity, The Dramatists Guild, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, the United Scenic Artists, the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers, the Casting Society of America, the American Theatre Wing and members of The Broadway League.
