Beauty and the Geek Australia

CALLING ALL BEAUTIES AND GEEKS -

BEAUTY AND THE GEEK IS BACK IN 2012!

Seven’s reality hit Beauty and the Geek Australia will return for a fourth series later this year.

Following in the footsteps of last year’s amazing makeovers and personal transformations, applications are now open to find academically gifted yet socially awkward geeks to team up with some big-hearted beauties who are more into their looks than books.

All beauties and geeks are invited to apply by going to the official website and filling out the application form at: www.beautyandthegeek.com.au

Last year’s series saw Lachlan and Sarah take home the $100,000 prize, with Lachlan also finding love with Sydney beauty Jordan during the filming of the series.

In the ultimate social experiment, the glitzy girls and genius guys will live together and be teamed up as they compete in hilarious and heart-warming challenges to test their intellect and social skills.

Applicants must be aged over 18.

Produced by Shine Australia, the fourth series of Beauty and the Geek Australia will premiere on Seven later this year. The show was a Thursday night hit, with an audience of over 1.5 million tuning in for the makeover episodes.

Last night, Australia’s favourite social experiment Beauty & The Geek Australia saw Sarah & Lachlan win the 2011 series and take home the $100,000.

Learning of their win, Lachlan said, “Money can’t buy what I have received through this experience.” While Sarah talked about her friendship with Lachlan, “I always wanted a brother and I think I finally got one.“

BEAUTY & THE GEEK AUSTRALIA averaged 319,000 viewers in Melbourne and 1.164m viewers across Australia, making it the number one show of the night.

THE WINNER REVEALED attracted 354,000 viewers in Melbourne and 1.253m viewers across the 5 City Metro Markets.

Continuing its domination of the key demographics, BEAUTY & THE GEEK AUSTRALIA secured a program share of 24.3 per cent (show) and 27.9 per cent (winner revealed) across the capital cities, and 21.7 per cent (show) and 25.2 per cent (winner revealed) in Melbourne.

The show’s success contributing to Seven’s Thursday night win – with a combine share of 31.3 per cent across Australia and 28.3 per cent in Melbourne.

Ahh, you missed my gaff on Alan Joyce! But I thought you’d enjoy this picture better!

It’s been a hefty week yet again for reality with the launch of a real kicker; a few makeovers, some spooky premonitions and a whole lot of cooking!

Junior MasterChef began the week with a challenge that saw the contestants head to a farm to cook a three course Australiana meal. They were split into teams with the green team consisting of Lily, Chandler, Marcus and Zac winning the feast.

On Monday, it was their final chance to earn some points and they did so by cooking breakfast and preparing a shrimp delight in front of none other than Luke Nguyen! In the end, Marcus, Harry, Tom, Stephen, Dee, Gracie, Jack and Kieran couldn’t scrape their way into the top 8 and will face elimination on Sunday.

To The X Factor and the performances weren’t good compared to the week before but it was certainly going to be Johnny’s to lose. He found his way into the bottom two facing off with Mitchell Callaway but sending the show into deadlock, the judges ensured Johnny some hope. That hope prevailed as you lot sent Mitchell, undoubtedly the stronger singer, home. Fair to say, their showdown performances were probably their best yet.

The One- Ooooh why do I bother- Maria was eliminated and really, if you believe in all that- watch it!

Beauty And The Geek- now that’s a hoot! This week was a massive 90 minute fiesta complete with a makeover! Johnny, Gilbert, Bendeguz and Julian rounded out the makeover cavalcade and didn’t they look amazing.

But the event was somewhat shown up by the shocking exit of Maddy who left due to undisclosed medical reasons and was replaced by the bubbly Jacelle.

From there, two challenges saw Julian and Jordan and Gilbert and Jacelle safe from elimination where they chose to send Jimmy & Mackenzie and Helen & Troy into elimination- separating the two partnerships forged between Jimmy & Helen and Mackenzie & Troy. From this, the golden couple- the twist of the season, Helen & Troy, were sent home.

Celebrity Apprentice Australia was the massive highlight of the week- as it comes with being a cab off the rank in this industry. Twelve celebrities began earning bucks for charity doing the work of mere mortals. This included working at KFC (would you like some product placement with that family fun bucket?) and a car wash. Pauline got down to some very colourful dacks to impress customers. Poppy- I mean Polly- salvaged whatever celebrity status she had to go against Deni and her brutal ways. Max danced around like an absolute hoon and Warwick pretty much did nothing.

We got straight into it with Bouris not taking any prisoners- eliminating both Polly and Warwick in the debut week. The show has performed well for Nine and is set to become a fast paced hit.

So what happens next week? Well, Junior MasterChef eliminates four more contestants on Sunday before the final 12 head to LA!!! It is sure to be a must see week in a must avoid season as these little kids take on America!

The X Factor and The One will do what they do best with no real standout difference in format. We can expect another elimination from The X Factor and possibly another two from The One.

Beauty & The Geek Australia is now down to five pairs of geeks and beauties as the format returns to its normal façade and the teams compete for that winning prize. What is that winning prize…?

Celebrity Apprentice is now down to ten competitors but by the time the week is up- that number will drop to eight! It’s a cruel world that boardroom!

So that’s the recap for the week and don’t forget- Celebrity Apprentice Australia MONDAY will be uploaded early Tuesday afternoon. I believe it is a challenge episode. Other than that, no other disturbances are expected.

Cheers to the freakin’ weekend!…

Thursday next week (October 27) will be the ever popular make over episode of Beauty and The Geek, which will be a 90 minute episode. The make over episode also signifies the show’s move to the new time of 7.30pm Thursdays.

The Amazing Race will now air after Beauty and the Geek, at 9pm Thursday October 27 and 8.30pm Thursday November 3.

A repeat of How I Met Your Mother will air at 10pm on Thursday October 27, while new episodes will air from 9.30pm Thursday November 3.

The hilarious Outsourced remains at 10.30pm Thursday nights.

Elsewhere in Seven’s schedule, the final of suits airs Monday October 31 at 10.30pm, Packed to the Rafters so far is having a week of on November 1, while Above Suspicion lands at 9.30pm Wednesday nights from 9.30pm October 26. Criminal Minds repeats move into Wednesday nights at 8.30pm, once Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour concludes.

This show just seems to be a re-hash of previous seasons. A guy made to grow facial hair, that is often weird, with girls that are botoxed, lifted and gifted. If you have Foxtel and have seen the original versions from the US, it’s so sad as Aussies that we couldn’t find many new challenges or less cliched ideas.

The boys have to put accessories on the beauties (by paint) and the 1st is a choker – two get out. 2nd is a crop top. 2 more are out!. Now Manahlo Blahnik pumps – Theo does the ankle and is out as are meant for the foot. Next is wayfarers? The sunglasses! This means Lachlan and Sarah win!

Yet again all get in the spa in the first episode. Wow – originality please! This has happend every season. They already have crushes after a day, really? – or pay cheques! Am finding this show more about set ups than reality.

There is NO way people can be this dumb – is there? I’m sorry this is more scripted than reality! Surprised?

There are so many similarities to the US version, including a female geek and male beauty. Ours are named Helen and Troy! They are having a laugh at us! Google Helen of Troy!

Like ther US version, the geeks immediately take a liking to the newly introduced female geek, while, at the same time, they are against the male beauty.

Two teams are up for elimination, one of which will be replaced with the new team of boy beauty and girl geek.

The two teams up for elimination were Nathan and Darlene and Colin and Gaia.

The girls have to answer questions on geography – and it is unbelievable what they don’t answer correctly.

The boys have to answer questions on fashion. A tie results, meaning their is a tie break. Then there is a closest to answer – how tall is Gisele Bundchen – answer is 180cm. Nathan said something like 150cm?!!

Nathan and Darlene were first to leave.

Beauty and the Geek airs on Seven, 8.30pm, Thursdays.

Tonight on Seven, during The X Factor, Seven started running teaser ads for season three of Beauty and the Geek Australia.

Time for some predictive programming!

Based on the fact the show has normally aired on Thursday nights at 8.30pm, then it is very likely the new season will premiere at 8.30 Thursday September 22 or worst case September 29.

Current programming for that timeslot is obviously temporary, with factuals following The X Factor.

The X Factor airs four nights a week for the next two weeks, before settling into its regular two night per week routine later this month.

This could also mean (lets pray!) that season 19 of The Amazing Race US will be fast tracked and air on Thursday nights as well near the end of September.

Beauty and the Geek Australia – Seven 8.30 Thursdys, from September 22 or 29, 2011.

This week (July 24-30, 2011) saw a record amount of locally produced reality TV air on our free to air networks. So much so, many have suggested there is simply too much.

The Block, seen on Nine, now airs over 6 nights a week, and a total of four and a half hours this week, not including encore episodes. Masterchef Australia, which airs on Ten, also airs six nights a week, amounting to five hours per week of competition plus a further ninety minutes for Friday nights’ Masterclass.

On top of that. Ten opted to launch new reality competition show The Renovators during the final two weeks of Masterchef, airing after the cooking show. This week, it aired one hour per night, over five nights.

Then there is Top Design on Nine, which was extended to over ninety minutes this week, The Amazing Race Australia on Seven – a one hour offering, and Australia’s Got Talent – also on Seven – which aired for two hours this week for its second last episode of 2011.

Just these six shows alone amount to a total over 20 hours of reality competition spread over prime time every night except for Saturday*. Next week (July 31 – August 6) is set to be similar as Masterchef goes into finals week, and both Australia’s Got Talent and The Amazing Race Australia conclude for 2011 while The Renovators airs over five nights again, and The Block continues on Nine.

All amounts to an absolute smorgasbord for reality TV fans, but for those trying to keep up with all these shows, a big ask to sit through hours a night of reality. All this before you consider, that on Foxtel, there is Project Runway Australia airing on Monday nights, and Australia’s Next Top Model soon to launch its new season.

Add on all the overseas produced reality shows – both on free to air and Foxtel and it would appear reality competition formats are back in full swing. On ELEVEN you have The Biggest Loser US, and Britain’s Next Top Model while the US version of The Voice starts on GO! August 9. On Foxtel, there is Top Chef and Dating in the Dark US to name a few.

Past next week, and there is a reprieve of sorts as The Renovators on Ten fills the timeslots vacated by Masterchef, while The Block and Top Design continue on Nine.

Still to come this year is The X Factor and Beauty and the Geek, both on Seven while Ten has Junior Masterchef set to roll out its second season from September.

Given how well locally produced reality is rating, the situation is not likely to change any time soon. 2012 is shaping up to be another year dominated by reality with Masterchef, Australia’s Got Talent, The Amazing Race Australia and The Block all set to return for new seasons next year.

On top of those titles are The Biggest Loser Families to air on Ten from February, The Australian version of The Voice on Nine to launch next year, Masterchef season four on Ten and My Kitchen Rules season three on Seven. And of course, there is American Idol which will air on FOX8 from January.

Who said reality competition was dead? The format just seems to go from strength to strength – seems we just can’t get enough of it.

Former Beauty and the Geek contestant Tamika Chesser has appeared in court following an incident involving a police officer on ANZAC Day.

The 20-year-old faced two counts of assaulting or obstructing a police officer and one of being drunk in public.

Chesser said she was confronted by police officers on Orchid Avenue in Surfers Paradise while trying to ring a friend. She said they accused her of being drunk in public.

“The next minute I know, they’re saying: ‘You’re going to have to come with us’,” Chesser said.

Chesser said she “snapped” and was shoved to the pavement while one of the police officers said she was dressing like a “slut”.

She has complained to the state’s Crime and Misconduct Commission, arguing that she was wrongfully and brutally arrested.

Her case has been adjourned until June 15.
