Over two months after its launch in regional markets that receive PRIME, The Seven network is set to launch Television 4 – also known as TV4 – on channel 74 to the five metro markets and regional Queensland.

The new channel claims it will give viewers more viewing variety and access to information about products and services as well as special offers and deals in their areas.

It will deliver programming including Shopping 4 Me, Education 4 Me, Finance 4 Me and Lifestyle 4 Me.

The new channel will be part of Seven’s digial multiplex, broadcasting on channel 74 using MPEG4 technology (meaning it uses very little bandwidth – hoepfully this means no drop in quality for Seven’s three channels).

Having seen TV4 already on channel 64, TV4 is essentially non-stop infomercials. Channel 64 does not have an EPG – so you have no idea what you are going to see when you flick past it. Not sure if this will be the case for 74 as well.

TV4 on channel 74 launches in December into the five metro markets and regional QLD.

Wonder how many people watch channel 64? And how many will watch channel 74? Your thoughts?

Launching on September 18, 2011, is a new free to air digital channel called Television 4, which will air on channel 64 in regional NSW, Victoria, ACT and the Gold Coast.

The new channel, also known as TV4, claims it will give viewers more viewing variety and access to information about products and services as well as special offers and deals in their areas.

It will deliver laods of variety including:

Shopping 4 Me (presumably infomercials)

Education 4 Me (possibly open learning type programming?)

Finance 4 Me (Share market information maybe?)

Lifestyle 4 Me (Community TV programming)

Viewers who receive PRIME in regional NSW, Victoria, ACT and the Gold Coast will have access to the channel on freeview channel 64. Some tuners will pick it up automatically, others may have to re-scan. The channel appears to be carried as part of Prime’s digital multiplex.

Based on the limited information available, it sounds like the channel will be a cross between the EXPO channel – which currently airs on Foxtel, and used to air in the 40′s group of digital channels in Sydney before they were shut down, as well as community TV which is seen on channel 44 in metro areas.

Television 4 has a website: www.brandnewmedia.com.au/media1/television/television-4

It luanches Sunday September 18 in PRIME Regional TV markets.
