Nine-Entertainment-CoNINE ENTERTAINMENT CO. SIGNS FIVE YEAR DEAL WITH CRICKET AUSTRALIA & ACQUIRES NWS ADELAIDE

David Gyngell, Chief Executive Officer of Nine Entertainment Co., today confirmed the Nine Network has formally renewed with Cricket Australia to broadcast cricket Tests, One Day Internationals and Twenty/20 matches for the next five years, as well as obtaining digital rights to the game.

Nine Entertainment Co. has also reached agreement with WIN to purchase NWS Adelaide, with a future option for STW Perth. Continue reading »

9cChannel Nine has officially retained the rights to broadcast international cricket in Australia for the next five years.

In the richest television agreement in the game’s history, Nine will pay in the region of $450 million in cash and contra advertising to televise home international matches between November and February. The 47-year-old ‘Blue Lagoon’ actress has reportedly been approached by ABC to join the US morning chat show’s panel. It comes after current host Joy Behar recently announced she is leaving the popular series after 16 seasons and amid rumours Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s contract has not been renewed.

According to gossip website showbiz411.com, Barbara Walters, who is at the helm of the series, thinks that Brooke would be a great addition and is eager for her to take over one of the vacant spots. Continue reading »

A source with knowledge of the situation has said that longtime panelist Elisabeth Hasselbeck also won’t be back when the series returns this fall for its 17th season — joining original cast member Joy Behar who is leaving after 17 years

Former England captain and cricket commentator Tony Greig has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 66.

Greig had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, but he suffered a heart attack at his home on Saturday morning and died at about 1.45pm (EDT).

“He was rushed into St Vincent’s hospital. The staff of the emergency department worked on Mr Greig to no avail,” St Vincent’s spokesman David Faktor said. Continue reading »
