A new day is dawning in the Black Hills outlaw camp of Deadwood.

Governmental and legal interests, as well as those of powerful commercial entities, begin to enter the town as Deadwood prepares itself for entry into Dakota Territory.

The series charts Deadwood’s growth from camp to town, incorporating themes ranging from the formation of communities to Western capitalism.

The show features a large ensemble cast, and many historical figures appear as characters such as Seth Bullock, Al Swearengen, Wild Bill Hickok, Sol Star, Calamity Jane, Wyatt Earp, E. B. Farnum, Charlie Utter and George Hearst.

The plot lines involving these characters include historical truths as well as substantial fictional elements. Some of the characters are fully fictional, although they may have been based on actual persons.

Tonight, Swearengen spends a sleepless night, as a drunk wanders the deserted streets.

“I am not the fine man you take me for,” shouts the man as he climbs the hustings and proclaims his sorry lot – then topples to his death.

Preparing for the day, Martha and Bullock discuss whether the speeches will take place that night.

Doc warns Alma that she needs surgery if she wants to avoid a miscarriage.

It’s 1877. A new day is dawning in the Black Hills outlaw camp of Deadwood.

Six weeks after the events of Season 2, government and law, as well as the interests of powerful commercial entities, begin to enter the town as Deadwood prepares itself for entry into Dakota Territory.

In episode one, Deadwood’s first elections are being held and tonight the candidates stumping for Mayor and Sheriff are to address the camp. Hearst’s ambitions rub Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and Swearengen (Ian McShane), the wrong way. At the Gem, one of Hearst’s workers is killed at the Gem, raising Swearengen’s suspicions that the incident was a staged Hearst power play. Ellsworth and Doc Cochran are alarmed by complications involving Alma’s pregnancy. Adam’s orchestrated foreclosure gives Star a new home, with discreet access next door for Trixie(Paula Malcomson). Jane(Robin Weigert) prepares to share her experience scouting for General Custer with the camp’s children. Shocked by her inability to make a break from Tolliver (Powers Boothe), Joanie (Kim Dickens) contemplates the easy way out.

In this series final, Swearengen’s (Ian McShane) shrewd manipulation of the rumour mill pays off in a Yankton counter-offer that requires only slight amending.

Meanwhile, George Hearst’s (Gerald McRaney) arrival in Deadwood has shaken up the camp’s status quo from Wu (Keone young) to Farnum (William Sanderson) to Wolcott (Garrett Dillahunt). Tolliver (Powers Boothe), for his part, seeks to avoid marginalisation by offering the tycoon damning nuggets about his engineer’s nasty habits.

Bullock’s (Timothy Olyphant) corroboration of the Montana offers complicates Commissioner Jarry’s (Stephen Tobolowsky) counter-efforts – and sends Blazanov’s (Pavel Lychinikoff) telegram lines to Yankton into overdrive.

Swearengen (Ian McShane) uses a Deadwood tragedy to delay an altercation between Wu (Keone Young) and Lee (Philip Moon), while buying time to improve his own standing with the Hearst delegation.

The camp waits for Doc Cochran’s (Brad Dourif) prognosis of William Bullock.

Martha (Anna Gunn) regrets her move to Deadwood after her son is severely injured.

Commissioner Jarry (Stephen Tobolowsky) returns to Deadwood to discuss possible annexation with Swearengen (Ian McShane), who then asks Sol Star (John Hawkes) to school Silas Adams (Titas Welliver) on Montana policy.

Trixie (Paula Malcomson) forces Alma (Molly Parker) to make a decision on Ellsworth’s (Jim Beaver) proposal.

Eagar for the latest news from Yankton, Swearengen (Ian McShane) enlists Farnum (William Sanderson) to keep tabs on Blazanov and his telegrams, and admonishes Merrick (Jeffrey Jones) for over-hyping the Montana rumours in his paper.

Wolcott (Garrett Dillihunt) gets a new moniker; Jane (Robin Weigert) and Joanie (Kim Dickens) continue their unlikely alliance; Sweargengen strikes a departure deal with Miss Isringhausen (Sarah Paulson); and Fields and Hostetler attempt to tame a wild horse for the cavalry with damaging results.

9:30pm – Monday, April 25 on ABC2

Wolcott offers on a rich claim operated by two ornery brothers, and reports to Hearst (Gerald McRaney) on their progress overall. Nuttall (Leon Rippey) proudly unveils his new ‘Bone-Shaker’ bicycle – but some doubt he can ride it.

Swearengen and Bullock discuss alternatives to annexing the Hills to Dakota.

Miss Isringhausen (Sarah Paulson) strikes a deal with Swearengen; Alma receives proposals from both Martha (Anna Gunn) and Ellsworth (John Beaver). Merrick’s new office mate is a Russian telegraph operator, and Stubbs has two unexpected visitors at the Chez Ami.

9:30pm – Monday, April 18 on ABC2

Tolliver (Powers Boothe) wrecks Merrick’s newspaper office in retribution for not publishing the county commissioner’s notice, Meanwhile, Con Stapleton (Peter Jason) and Leon (Larry Cedar) are having difficulty generating business for Tolliver’s new Chinese whores.

Utter (Dayton Callie) learns that Wolcott (Garrett Dillahunt) is in possession of Hickok’s (Keith Carradine) last letter, and Joanie (Kim Dickens) returns to Tolliver to ‘turn tricks’.

9:30pm – Monday, April 11 on ABC2

Alma (Molly Parker) proposes forming a bank, and looks to familiar faces to run it. To test himself, Swearengen (Ian McShane) grants audience to a long line of supplicants; talks with Farnum (William Sanderson) and Miss Isringhausen (Sarah Paulson) prove most illuminating.

The arrival of low-priced Chinese whores begins the next phase in Tolliver (Powers Boothe) and Wolcott’s arrangement. Humiliated by Bullock (Timothy Olyphant), an angry claim owner looks to “square the scales.” An enchanted Merrick tours a new schoolteacher about the camp. Wolcott’s inner demons test his alliance with Tolliver, and prompt Stubbs and Utter to covert action.

9:30pm – Monday, April 4 on ABC2

As a convalescing Al Swearengen (Ian McShane) bridles, Doc Cochran (Brad Dourif) schools Johnny Burns (Sean Bridgers) and Dan Dority (W. Earl Brown) how best to assist his recovery. Alma (Molly Parker) is also feeling unwell, mornings.

Unexpected profits at the Chez Ami lead Tolliver (Powers Boothe) to an unexpected discovery about Wolcott. Merrick posts a provocative statement from Yankton on title to the claims; Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) protects Commissioner Jarry from an angry mob, which redirects its ire.

After returning a horse to Hostetler at the livery, professional go-between Samuel Fields finds a kindred spirit in Jane (Robin Weigert).
