Nine have pretty well re-written this week of programming to include the US version of The Voice – which is its second season that has already aired and concluded in the US. There are fewer Big Bang repeats, Tricky Business moves AGAIN and a movie on Monday night.
Domestic Blitz
This year’s The Block 2012 couples are getting the chance to give something back.
It is Block meets Blitz when host Scott Cam is joined by Jamie Durie and the Block couples as they embark on a heart-warming Domestic Blitz special event, staging a much needed house and garden makeover in honour of an Australian community hero, the late Michael Wilson, who lost his life late last year, while doing his duty as a paramedic. The Blitz team tonight visit the Zwaan family of Megan (37), Arie (42), Ebony (18), Bianca (11) and Ruby (6).
Mum of three, Megan, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2007. She was treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy before going into remission.
In March 2009, she started getting severe back pain and after further tests and scans she found out that the cancer had come back and spread into the bone. Megan has at this point decided against further treatment as it will only add a few months to her life.
Megan has trouble moving around the house due to the pain she experiences with the cancer.
Domestic Blitz arrive to put some joy into the lives of the Zwaan family and provide them a house they can be proud of.
Blitz revamped the main bedroom to give her a tranquil retreat and completely make over the dining/living area of the house. Megan’s greatest wish was for a bathtub, so the team turn the area under the back deck into a tropical outdoor bathroom/day spa. And to enable Megan to reach her new bathroom with ease, Blitz install an external elevator from the upper deck opening straight into the day spa.
6:30pm – Sunday, April 18 on Channel Nine
In this episode of Domestic Blitz, the team surprise the Back family of Karen (45), Justin (39), Kristen (19) with son Xzavior (6 months), Michael (17), Jessi-Taylor (11) and Josh (9).
Karen Back is a selfless mum and community-minded individual with six children and five grandchildren. She works part time at Nepean Hospital, and also averages 20 hours a week volunteering for the Rural Fire Service.
In February 2008, after years of renting and saving their money Karen and Justin bought their first home. Just days before they were due to move in, Karen suffered a mild heart attack and two days later had a stroke. She had a long path to recovery ahead of her; she lost her mobility, speech and other functions and doctors weren’t sure if they would ever return.
After buying their dream home, and with Karen extremely unwell, the family survived living in what can only be described as a ‘renovators delight’. This is where Domestic Blitz steps in.
Domestic Blitz opened up the living, dining and kitchen area and installed timber bi-fold doors opening onto their gorgeous new garden. Outside, a new deck was built and a walkway leading to a private sitting area overlooking the entire garden. In the centre of the garden is a new inflatable outdoor cinema for the family, and the neighbourhood kids, to enjoy open air movies.

The Domestic Blitz team visit the Lewis family: Vaughan, Alicia, Annabelle, Sebastian and Phoebe.
Six months ago Vaughan was diagnosed with advanced melanoma which has spread to his brain, liver, spine, spleen and kidneys. He had surgery to remove his spleen but the doctors have not given him a time line. They have told him that it’s terminal unless the trial treatment he’s on works.
Alicia and Vaughan’s dream is to finish the renovations that Vaughan and his father in-law started before he got sick. The house at the moment is unfinished and parts of it seem like a construction site.
All the Lewis family want is a safe home for the children to play in and for Vaughan to be comfortable, and with medical bills pilling up this won’t be a reality for a long time to come.
6:30pm – Sunday, March 14 on Channel Nine
This week singer, Damien Leith makes a special appearance when the Blitz team set out to change the lives of the Vella family.
Mary Vella, 45, and her six children aged eight to 18 lost their loving husband and father, Mario, in 2006. Having survived a blood clot in her brain and thyroid cancer, Mary’s life took a tragic turn when her husband, Mario, sadly took his own life after years battling depression.
Mary and Mario always wanted to renovate their home, but with Mary’s illnesses and Mario’s depression they were never given the strength to do so. After Mario passed away, Mary wanted to continue holding onto this dream, but has not been able to see it realised – until now when the Blitz team grant their wish.

DOMESTIC BLITZ returns to Nine in 2010 to bring a smile to the faces of truly inspirational families and make their dreams come true, beginning with an unforgettable story on Sunday, February 28 at 6.30pm.
In this emotion-charged episode, the Blitz team travel to Gosford to meet the Freeman family. Childhood sweethearts Hilarie, 42, and Peter Freeman, 45, always dreamed of starting a family but after years of trying to fall pregnant they were still denied their greatest wish. Despite undergoing IVF treatment, the Freemans had all but given up when they finally received the exciting news – Hilarie was pregnant.
The Freemans welcomed their miracle baby son, Hadley, now four, to the family but then their world came crashing down when Hilarie received the devastating news that she may not see him grow up. Diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour, Hilarie has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment – but unfortunately the signs are not good and she is in for the fight of her life.
But she is not alone. Hilarie’s friends from her mothers’ group have formed a support group known as Hills Angels, and they are working tirelessly to support their dear friend and raise money for Hadley’s future – a future that might be without his mother.
The Domestic Blitz gang of Shelley Craft, Scott Cam, interior designer Chontelle Samios and landscaper Joel Hurrey descend on the Freeman house to give Hilarie her very own sanctuary. And Australia’s favourite green thumb, Don Burke, drops in to help with the lush garden makeover.
While the Blitz team are working their magic on the home, Richard Reid whisks the family and the Hills Angels off to the picturesque and tranquil Q Station in Manly for some much-needed pampering. Here the family receive a special visit from cricketer Nathan Bracken and the NSW SpeedBlitz Blues and Hilarie is serenaded by Aussie songstress, Paulini.
A heart-warming series return of DOMESTIC BLITZ:
Sunday, February 28 at 6.30pm on Nine
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t “After the Olympics” mean the time when the Olympics have completely finished – closing ceremony and all?
Nine are using “After the Olympics” to promote a number of shows at the moment. 60 Minutes is being advertised as returning after the Olympics, but, it will actually return on Sunday, February 28 at 7.30pm, after Domestic Blitz at 6.30pm.
Given that the closing ceremony of the Olympics is March 1, our time, the night of Feb 28 is not quite “After the Olympics”. Although, one could argue, that it is close enough given that the majority of the competition is over by then anyway.
That, however, cannot be said about Millionaire Wizz kids – a 2 hour show using the same format as the original “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” with school kids answering the questions in an attempt to win a million dollars for their school. Millionaire Wizz kids will air at 7.30pm, Saturday Feb 27, after Australia’s Funniest Home Videos which airs at 6.30pm Saturdays. It is currently being promoted as “After the Olympics”.
On Monday, March 1, Nine will play the closing ceremony of the winter Olympics live during the day, and replay it at night at 10.30pm. At 9.30pm, Monday March 1 on Nine is a new episode of CSI: Miami.
Definitely after the Olympics: Tuesday March 2 at 9.30 at this stage is “TBA”. It is the most likely timeslot for Survivor: Heroes and Villains.
Tuesday March 2, 7.30pm is a new ep of Top Gear. At 8.30, is a previously aired ep.
Wednesday March 3, sees new Cold Case at 9.30 and new Without a Trace at 10.30pm. Thursday March 4 at 9.30 will be a Mentalist repeat, following Adults Only 20-1 (why is it still on?) at 8.30pm. 10.30 maybe CSI: NY, but not sure on that one yet.
UPDATED: The TBA for Sunday Feb 28, 8.30pm is the telemovie “Wicked Love” – the story of Maria Korp, played by Rebecca Gibney.
A few of Nine’s key shows are returning in coming weeks.
1. Domestic Blitz returns Sunday Feb 28, at 6.30pm.
2. RPA returns to Nine Wednesday Feb 24 at 8.30pm. The final Cold Case airs Wed Feb 17 at 8.30pm.
3. Nine are starting to promote shows as coming “After the Olympics”. in particular, minute long ads for 60 Minutes highlight all the reasons why we need to watch the show. Given that the Olympics finish March 1, that would mean 60 Minutes returns Sunday March 7.
UPDATED: 60 Minutes returns Sunday Feb 28, 7.30pm. Read more of what is onm Nine after the Olympics here: http://www.throng.com.au/without-trace/whats-nine-after-olympics
