The first-ever Family Guy comic hits stores in America on July 27, and according to editor Steve White, it promises to delve deeper than ever before into the Family Guy characters/world: “‘The Family Guy’ universe is an amazing wellspring of ideas to plunder. It’s given us a lot of latitude to develop stories ranging from one-page gag strips to more extended full-length scripts and pretty much everything in between. We’re even looking at recurring one-pagers, but as I said, really, the world is our oyster here.”
On the characters to be featured in the comic: “There’s no way we would want to miss out on using the likes of Quagmire. There’s also a wealth of other characters we’d want to include. We’re not just paying lip service to the show. We’re really immersing ourselves in it. We felt that Family Guy TV show to Family Guy comic was a natural progression, but Fox needed a little convincing. In the end, we winged it and did a two-page comic strip off our own back and that actually seemed to do the trick.” Family Guy airs at 9.30pm on 7mate, no word on an Australian comic release date.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has scored the rights to reboot the classic cartoon The Flintstones.

MacFarlane will produce the series for the Fox network in the US with a 2013 launch date slated.

“One of the first things that I drew when I was 2 years old was Fred Flintstone,” MacFarlane told the buyers at the recent Fox upfronts.

While much of the cartoon will remain the same in the reboot, MacFarlane confirmed that some things will have to be updated.

“What’s the animal version of the iPod?” he said. “That’s the kind of thing we have to think about.”

Family Guy and The Cleveland Show have both been renewed by their American network, Fox.

Both of Seth MacFarlane’s animated series will return with Family Guy set to notch up its tenth season while spin-off The Cleveland Show will return for a fourth.

“For nine seasons, our viewers have been cracked up, delighted, surprised and, at times, gloriously disturbed by the mind of Seth MacFarlane — and they keep coming back for more,” said Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly.

“The Griffins and the Browns have become cornerstones of our Sunday nights, and we can’t wait to find out what new adventures Seth, Mike and Rich cook up for them next season.”
