ABC TV today announced it will broadcast two of the Matilda’s toughest football games – against FIFA Women’s World Cup Winners, Japan, and South Korea, – in a 2012 London Olympic Games qualifying tournament in China.

ABC TV will broadcast Australia’s clash with Japan on Monday, September 5th at 11.35pm on ABC1, and the Matildas match against Korea Republic on Monday, September 12th at 11.35pm on ABC1.

ABC TV Sport’s Stephanie Brantz will host the broadcast with match commentary from Peter Wilkins and special comments and analysis by former Matilda, Alicia Ferguson.

The two top teams from the gruelling six team, 11 day round robin tournament will progress to the 2012 London Olympic Games next July.

Australia have reached their highest ever World Ranking in football and capped off an exciting 14 months which included a second quarter final appearance in consecutive World Cups and winning the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in May last year.

Japan’s incredible performance in winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 brought them much closer to the coveted number one spot currently held by the USA with further change to be greatly affected by the 2012 London Olympics and preceding qualifiers.

Korea Republic (South Korea) are currently 16th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

Australia’s road to the Olympics begins when the Matildas play AFC Women’s Asian Cup runners-up DPR Korea (North Korea) in their opening match on September 1 at the Jinan Olympic Sports Centre – the first time the players have played a competitive match since the team’s quarter final exit from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany last month.

Matildas head coach Tom Sermanni has selected a talented 20-player squad more than capable of competing for a place at the 2012 London Olympic Games with their extensive experience and knowledge of playing big matches in Asia.

The Socceroos’ most important campaign since last year’s FIFA World Cup begins tomorrow when the Aussies, bolstered by the inclusion of Premier League stars Tim Cahill and Mark Schwarzer, take on Thailand in their opening FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier in Brisbane.

The Australians will be heavily favoured to kick off their campaign with a victory, having crushed the visitors 4-0 in their most recent meeting at the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.

Coach Holger Osieck named a near full-strength squad for his side’s opening two Group D qualifiers, including Sydney FC recruit Brett Emerton and all 18 players who were part of the Socceroos squad that took down Wales in a friendly at Cardiff last month.

FOX SPORTS, Australia’s home of the Socceroos, will provide LIVE and EXCLUSIVE coverage of the clash, beginning with a one-hour pre-game show from 7pm AEST tomorrow (Friday 2 September).

Once again FOX SPORTS coverage of the Socceroos will be delivered by the nation’s leading football commentary team, headed by Simon Hill and Andy Harper and featuring expert analysis from former Socceroos and Premier League champions Mark Bosnich and Robbie Slater.

Friday night’s coverage from Suncorp Stadium will also feature special guest commentary from premiership-winning Brisbane Roar Coach Ange Postecoglou.

Following the Brisbane clash, the Socceroos will head to Saudi Arabia to continue their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on Wednesday.

Simon Hill and Andy Harper will call all the action LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on FOX SPORTS from 3am AEST in Australia’s first encounter with the Saudi’s since the home nation’s 1-0 victory in the group stage of the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Fans can stay up-to-date with latest from the Socceroos camp by tuning into FOX SPORTS News and online at Australia’s leading general sports website, www.foxsports.com.au, which will feature a live blog during Friday night’s opening match.

After ending last season on the closest title race in decades, the world’s most popular football competition returns with coverage of all 380 games in the 20th anniversary season of the Barclays English Premier League on FOX SPORTS.  Manchester United will be gunning for an unprecedented 20th title against the might of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City while there will be plenty of interest locally in the fortunes of Tim Cahill’s Everton and Mark Schwarzer’s Fulham.

Thu 11 Aug, 4.45am AEST, LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on FOX SPORTS 1HD and 1

The Socceroos will travel to Cardiff City Stadium to take on Wales for their first outing since the scoreless draw against Serbia at Etihad Stadium last month in what will be the first meeting between the two nations.

Barclays Premier League fans will see their club in action every week this season as FOX SPORTS maintains its commitment to broadcasting every match of the world’s most watched football league, with no ad breaks during live play.

It all begins this weekend, when viewers will have access to full coverage of every match in the opening round of the season.

FOX SPORTS CEO Patrick Delany said the Barclays Premier League offering on FOX SPORTS in Australia is superior to UK coverage of the competition.

“FOX SPORTS coverage delivers all the excitement of match day, everything that you can experience at the game, direct to your living room or favourite venue,” said Mr Delany.

“It can’t be overstated how significant this offering is for Premier League fans in Australia. In the UK they simply don’t offer LIVE coverage of up to ten matches every weekend.”

“FOX SPORTS is giving fans the opportunity to see every match. They will not miss one of their club’s matches all season and will be able to watch a majority of those live, and all of them in high definition.”

As well as providing broadcast coverage of all 380 matches this season, FOX SPORTS will also carry the most comprehensive online coverage of the premiership.

Foxsports.com.au will offer up to four matches from each round LIVE, with up to five matches per round also available ‘on demand’ through its Premier League On Demand service exclusive to FOX SPORTS in Australia.

The FOX SPORTS website will also feature LIVE scoring on each of the season’s 380 matches, plus a range of exclusive video content including highlights packages from each game and themed video packages including goals of the week.

The season explodes into action this Saturday night at 11.55pm AEST when fans will be able to choose from five LIVE matches via the red button on FOX SPORTS 2HD & FOX SPORTS 2, including Tim Cahill’s Everton in their season-opening clash with Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Once again the Hyundai Matchday Saturday team of Adam Peacock, Mark Bosnich, and Robbie Slater will be in studio to preview and review the action each weekend, while FOX SPORTS will also have a presence on the ground in the UK with a dedicated reporter at all key matches.

FOX SPORTS coverage of the Barclays Premier League extends beyond the match coverage, with additional weekly programming to feature throughout the season including one hour of weekly highlights on the Barclays Premier League Highlights Show, plus the award-winning British football variety show, Soccer AM, each Sunday.

FOX SPORTS coverage of the Barclays Premier League is available in high definition and ad-break free during play for FOXTEL and AUSTAR subscribers.
